What are the moral dilemas for not allowing someone with a terminal illness to kill themselves?

for example a person has a terminal disease that will result in them dying painfully - should they be allowed to decide if they want to continue living or wether to be killed when they feel the time is right? Is there a difference between giving drugs to manage pain and aiding death (school task)

It would be considered suicide. When one willfully kills there self that's what it is. Good question to ponder though I believe if l were dying a slow and painful death l would want to find a way to do it

That should be left up to the individual. It should not left to the political influence of hypocritical Christians. If they wish to believe in imaginary beings that tell them what to do that is fine, but they should not be allowed to interfere in other people's lives.

The dilemma stems from a belief that suicide is a 'sin'.
I personally believe that if the person is an adult, and lucid, that the disease is terminal it is their choice. Every person has the right to control their own body and their own destiny.

There comes a time in a terminal illness where the pain is so great that the drugs doctors give a patient are not suffient enough to stop the pain. The reason for this is, the patient has built a tolerence to the drugs and the patient will die if docotor's increase their levels of say, morphine any higher.

If a human is in pain and wants to die, then how is that a moral dimena? Physical pain coupled with the menal angish of knowing it will not end until death and death is forthcoming is one of the absolute horrors of terminal illnesses in humans.

We can humanly kill our pets, yet they can not decide this for themselves. But, when you ask a majority of people they agree that if an animal is in pain with no recourse of "true" medical solution, putting them down it the right solution.

You mean to tell me animals should have more rights than people?

Here you have a human that can actually ANSWER for themselves, there is no medical cure or recourse and they are in constant and unbearable pain. WHY is that fair to keep them alive against their WILL? How could it even be deemed as suicide or humicde? It is a seperate issue that shouldn't even have anything but empathy and understanding.

Honestly, how could you NOT give pain medication to someone who is in chronic pain? Yes there is BIG difference to giving pain medication and aiding in death. Without pain medication some of the terminally ill couldn't get out of bed to go to the bathroom.

I am all for medically assisted death under the circumstances described above and with the patient's consent.

If you want to get REAL, chruch and state are suppose to be seperate, so I don't even like using the word SUICIDE in these cases. Hence, bible and sin shouldn't even be a factor! BOTTOM line this should be an individual choice. (Simular to Roe vs. Wade, only medically induced death would apply to men and women)
