Terrible insomnia, if this is what it is...?

I have always had a problem falling asleep. It has been commonn all my life. But the past two or three months it has taken a bad turn. I can go three days running on only seven hours of sleep. I've pulled an all nighter and the following night still be awake at 5:30am. I've tried changing my diet, listening to certain sounds and music before bed rest. I've gone running two hours before bed. I've taken over the counter drugs, such as Nyquil, Tylanol PM, Benedril, and Sleep Aid. Ive tried a few other pain killers and muscle relaxers as well, such as Flexril and Kodiene (note that neither were perscribed as sleeping aid). Whenever I take any kind of pill or drug for sleep, I get drowsy (after waiting two or three hours for it to kick in) and if on the rare occasion is actually makes me fall asleep, I will wake up in, if I am lucky, an hour and a half, completely awake; like I cannot even keep my eyes closed. If this isn't insomnia what is? Im desperate, nothing works. I am always awake.

I think it is acute insomnia! Go see your doctor, doll. This can't be good for you .

get to a doctor and see a sleep specialist. I fight the same problem. It's all about finding what works for you.

I go to a sleep clinic to determine what is going on (something to do with brain wave patterns) as pills have no effect.

There is something called sleep hygiene which means the habits you have around bedtime. First, go to bed at the same time every night. Don't eat, exercise, or drink anything but water for two hours before bedtime. Sleep in an at least partially darkened room. Learn some meditation techniques like imagining yourself floating on a cloud or relaxing all the muscles in your body one at a time, etc. There is a whole new class of sleeping pills out now that are very effective. Try Ambien, Lunesta, or one of the others as your doctor prescribes for the first couple of weeks while you develop good sleep habits.

The drugs dont work...they just make you lie awake groggy and wishing even more for sleep. Dont exercise that close to bedtime. Watch t.v. then read in bed. Something on your mind? write it down so you can stop thinking about it. I have it too, that when I know I have to sleep, like working the next day...I cause myself not to sleep. It drives me nuts. I think hormones have something to do with it too. Get your thyroid checked, by your Dr.

Insomnia is the perception by patients that their sleep is inadequate or abnormal. Insomnia may affect as many as 69% of adult primary care patients. The incidence of sleep problems increases with age. Younger persons are apt to have trouble falling asleep, whereas older persons tend to have prolonged awakenings during the night.

Insomnia is often caused by fear, stress, anxiety, medications, herbs, caffeine, depression or sometimes for no apparent reason. Make sure your bedroom is quiet and dark. Soak a tablespoon of mint leaves in a cup of water for an hour, drink every night. Check out http://useinfo-insomnia.blogspot.com/ for more info
