Non toxic, non PVC (polyvinyl chloride) shelf liners?

I am looking for some Environmentally Friendly shelf liners for my cabinets in my kitchen and bathroom.

I have been searching places like Longs Drugs, Target, Rite Aid, for shelf liners. They onlly have the rubber "non-stick" kind, which I found was made of PVC which is very toxic. This is the stuff that some kids' toys are made of (slinky, etc.) The Contact Brand ones are made of that PVC foam stuff and the other ones available are made of some plastic (which I'm not sure is recyclable). It is called Ribbed Shelf Liner Plast-O-Mat by Warp Bros.

I guess wrapping paper might work, but I'm looking for something that goes with my decor (red or at least a design that looks good), and I'm not even sure wrapping paper will hold up. I think paper towels are to flimsy.

I'd appreciate any ideas that have worked for anyone.

Use thick, lint free, fabric. When it get dirty, throw it in the washer.
