Armour Thyroid is my only drug needed for hypothyroid & it's getting hard to get at the pharmacies- WHY?

I take 180 mg. and CVS, Rite-Aid, and other pharmacies don't carry this level and don't expect to for months! I am outraged as I have used this DAILY for over 15 years with no side - effects since it's from pig thyroid. It's GREAT! I'm 55 and going strong as a substitute teacher. Is there anything comparable? Really? The docs are nuts to prescribe Synthroid. That's not at all comparable! T3 and T4 are in Armour and not in Synthroid as it's synthetic and doesn't come close.

Ask to speak to the pharmacy manager and hopefully you will get it. I remember CVS once telling me they didn't carry the 180mg dose, so I left them and went to Brooks. About a year later, I decided I wanted to go back to CVS, so I called and spoke to the pharmacy manager who said that they would order the Armour in 180mg for me. It really depends on who you speak to and the pharmacy chain. I am now going to Rite Aid and not having any trouble getting the 180 mg.

Another option is for your doctor to write the script for two 90 mg tablets a day. Some pharmacies will only order a particular dose if mre than one patient is on it. That's the case with the Walgreens near me, so they woul not order the 180 mg.

I agree Armour is great. I started out on Levoxyl with no relief from my symptoms. The reason Synthroid is pushed so much is all about money. The makers of Armour do not even promote it whemn their reps go out to the doctors office. The Synthroid reps push it though, so you can see why more doctors prescribe it.

fatigue, hairloss, and muscle and joint aches went away with Armour. The company doesn't promote ARmour because its not a big money maker for them. Report It

It's on back order. Most prescribers avoid Armour because it is inconsistent and not pure. Armour has more side effects and problems than Levothyroxine.
You only need T4 to survive because your body will make T3 from it. There is a product which is mixed T4/T3, but it is no better and costs more than Levothyroxine.
If you have no side effects with Armour, you'll probably won't have any with levothyroxine.
I will fill many prescriptions of levothyroxine (brand and generic) per day. I might get one prescription of Armour every week. Everyone hates filling that prescription because the tablets smell bad.

so far the only strength we have run out of is 120 mg. The fine people at Armour didn't make enough it appears.

btw if it's back-ordered 'speaking to the pharmacy manager' will accomplish nothing.
