"Is safe drug use", being responsible ?

There is an aids ad program using the logic that we should all be responsible, it goes like this.

"Use condoms and inject safely....that's being responsible.

What do you think ?

Haha, there is no such thing as safe drug use when it comes to things like heroin. Heroin is dangerous no matter how it is used, and it is illegal (unlike sex), so no ad campaign will ever try to get people to use it safely.

Education pays.

People are going to do the drugs and have the sex they want....so this campaign is just to tell them to do it responsibly ( like don't drive while drunk) ....like they listen lol ;)

I havent seen it! thats pretty bad! not a good image, but i guess its realistic, theres always going to be drug users and maybe trying to ensure they are as safe as possible is the aim?
But yeah i agree its not responsible, and gives a bad image.
And pretty unlikely they are going to listen!

At the end of the day, people cannot really stop others from using drugs if they so chose. So yes I would say that this ad is being responsible because it is at least informing and reminding those who chose to take drugs or those who are far too addicted to drugs, to at least protect themselves and others from catching diseases such as aid and hepatitis B etc.

An effort to promote safe and responsible use of drugs and sexual encounters, is certainly more beneficial than nothing at all!! x

See, I believe that this is completely ridiculous logic. Safe drug use is nonexistent. Is someone who only takes a few pills any less dangerous than someone who takes more? NO. Either way, it's stupid. Either way, it's putting yourself at risk. Someone who huffs and doesn't die from it isn't "safer" than someone who dies from it the first time. ANY DRUG USE IS DANGEROUS. (Other than, of course, a recommended dose of drugs from your doctor.)

I think it's the best approach, short of rounding up every hiv positive and keeping them in quarantine for life. At fantastic expense I might add.

Yeah maybe not everyone's going to listen when you ask them to disinfect their needles, not share them and so on, or use condoms.

But I'm pretty sure you'll have even less luck talking them into not having sex or using drugs at all. That being the historical experience and all.

So it comes down to what your priorities are. Do you want to slow down the disease or not? Before it spreads to someone you might actually care about I mean.

If you're more concerned about stopping people from doing stuff you don't approve of, maybe you should stop yammering about aids and go bother the police and the churches instead, that's sort of more in their department.

I think that if they are going to do it anyways, they should have the clean supplies to do so. If not, disease spreads. People also use needles for other things rather than just drug abuse. Dietabetics use them for insulin. The dentist uses novacaine for dental procedures. So proper injection standards are born! I guess if you use a condom incorrectally, it could result in pregnancy. Too many people die of Hep-C and Complications of HIV, and to think that if they had the clean supplies, they wouldn't be sick. It's a fine line between enabling them to continue risky behavior, as well as keeping the rest of the population safer. Hope this helps

If you are going to do it, you might do it the correct way.

It is a choice about how you want to die. Does HIV sound appealing - use dirty needles. If overdosing is more your cup of tea go for the clean needles and drug use. If STDs sound like fun forget the condoms and share your disease with someone you love. I am joking...

I suppose the add is supposed stop the spread of HIV, but is the average addict going to care about how long they live?
