When people say that they fought for our freedom in Vietnam.,what are they talking about?

Our way of life was never in dangered.There was no threat on american soil or even teh thought of it. we just tried to be the playground police and got involved in someone elses battle again.
Same thing we're doing in Iraq. Good hearted americans die because our government cant keep our nose where it belongs. i bet if we just left everyone alone and let them fight it out themselves, we wouldnt have so many issues in this country that are going untouched. Like poverty, Aids, Drug wars, violence, the backstreet boys reunion tour..
these are serious issues and we should spend more time working on them instead of caring who is invading who..Remember if Britain got all of the other countries involved in the Revolutionary war we would still be under their control. Taking over land is part of life and society needs it.

You missed the day they taught history in school, I guess?

Do yourself a favor and go read every book you can by Mao Tse Tung. Then get yourself a book covering Soviet foreign policy from the 1920's to the fall of the Soviet Union.

Finally, you need to study the economy, especially defense economy, of the Soviet Union and China from about 1950 to the fall of the Soviet Union.

Then you can tell me what happened in Vietnam in context and whether there was a threat or not.

(Notice that none of my recommendations requires US Government perspective on anything. The truth of the situation should be obvious from just Communist or ex-communist sources.)

Simple....they were talking about the propaganda that they were being fed at the time.......

What is more likely to gain support.....Fighting for our freedom.....or Fighting for revenge?\

Our freedom never had anything to do with Vietnam....and has even less to do with Iraq......

Just a campaign slogan to get the sheep to line up.............

That they fought for Brown and Root, General dynamics, LBJ, CIA, and made alot of people rich by fighting for another country. My dad served 3 tours, and said it was the stupidest war ever. That their hands were tied on hundreds of things they couldn't do.No wonder we lost, plus China was helping the North as well.

Our way of life was never in danger in Korea either? Vietnam as was Korea was a war against Communism. We don't know where we'd be today if those wars weren't fought. It all lead to the downfall of the old Soviet Union. The cost of war to the Soviets was the collapse of their economy and I believe that was brought on by those two wars.

That's just the standard propaganda reply.

How is the war in IRAQ a defense of our freedom?
Are those twenty, below-poverty-level illiterates, in that flimsy shanty on the outskirts of Baghdad, gonna come four thousand miles, and blow something up, here in America? Doubtful.

The same propaganda will apply.

Besides, if the war in Vietnam was about our freedom, then we lost our freedom, because we lost the war in Vietnam.

The most brazen behavior of the propagandists is the glaring incongruencies in their statements, over time.

Yeah--if we just left everyone alone and let other nations fight it out there would be happiness and rainbows and rivers made of chocolate.....c'mon man. This country isn't perfect by any means, but it seems that we get involved sometimes when it is in our self interest (Vietnam, Revolutionary War) but we also get involved when it is in the world's interest (you know that whole Hitler thing?) If we sit back and watch Islamic extremism run rampant (like Clinton did) we get burned.......like we did---see the 1990's, pretty much a mjaor terror attack every single year in that decade. I guess only time will tell how the Iraq War will pan out--hopefully years from now it won't be seen as a mistake, because I don't root for my country to lose--like some people do.

Vietnam was important at the time because it was
a war against communism, the same as Korea,
and eventually it did lead to the downfall of the Soviet Union. Otherwise all of you would be speaking Russian or Chinese!!!!!!!!!

GOD!! I Hardly ever respond to these (because there are about 200 of these types a day) but quit B!$ching its not like people are giving anything up for this war.Not like WWII where they almost rationed air!!!All you have to do is pay a little extra in taxes and don't say anything about the dieing troops,because it is a VOLUNTEER army nobody drafted them or anything they either joined to make something of themselves (a solider is (or was)a respectable pursuit in life)or they joined for education,they know (for the most part)what they are getting into.So what are we fighting for?OIL PRICES!!!!You know the same stuff I see people complaining about right after they complain about the war in Iraq.So pick one my fellow Americans pay
$6.50 a gallon for gas or let some young men and women do the job they signed up for.

Exactly "WHO" said we were fighting for "OUR" freedom in Vietnam? We aren't fighting for our freedom in this war either. It's others we are fighting for. Sit in your living room chair and pick up a history book.
