Talking to people will help, but only if you say something like "DO NOT have sex with anyone until you are married. DO NOT have sex with anyone but your husband or wife once you are married. DO NOT take drugs. DO NOT share needles".

It is uncurable, but the wealthier you are the better treatment you will get and the longer you will live.

In the 1970s, overpopulation was a major concern for the planet. Since AIDS arrived on the scene in the late 1970s, over population doesn't get much press.

Also in the 1970s the spread of violence and civil war in Africa was an issue. While still an issue, it too has taken on a secondary importance.

Now AIDS has "branded" gays (rightly or wrongly) and the average person thinks of AIDS as being primary a gay illness. In fact it was originally called GRD for gay related disease.

In the 1970s "Black Power" was a major concern in the USA. Now it appears that Blacks are a major percentage of AIDS sufferers and "Black Power" has also become a secondary issue for the average American.

China and India, viewed as potential contenders for the Supreme World power (that the USA currently holds) are quickly becoming countries with the highest number of AIDS sufferers. At 20 million dollars per year in medical costs for over 5 million sufferers quickly drain governmental treasuries preventing using the money for capitalization and infurstructure improvements.

I think that in the near future AIDS wil shape world politics more than any election, war, or revolution.

The disease is terrible, but I don't think you should call that lady a clown . She's doing more than many others. Simply writing that article does alot for awareness . And it is a shame that some people got the disease from sources other than unprotected sex .
Those are the really sad cases.

Um, the point of aids day is to spread the knowledge of AIDs so that no one else could get them. If i talked to you about aids, you would think "aids are bad, i need to be careful, so i need to use condumns." or something like that.

the not having sex with anyone till marriage will only prevent Aids, protect you, if both partners do it,,,,,,even then, what if one had picked up the disease at a hospital,,, or dentist? after marriage, the same is true, both must be faithful and not of contacted it in a non-sexual way,,, talking to people about safe sex, and not to share needles, not to drink after people (rare yes, but if you have an open mouth sore and they do also, its possible) would help, so would encouraging understanding that this is "everyones" disease, we all must deal with it, either directly or with someone we know,, or the effects it has on our society

What I think is disgusting is that we spend substantially more money on AIDS than we do on breast cancer and prostate cancer combined, yet the numbers killed by these two cancers dwarf AIDS substantially.

The majority of people receive AIDS as a consequence of engaging in perversion. Rare are the cases of blood transfusion, like Ryan White, or spouses infected by cheating spouses. Most common are single people who engage in fornication and perversion, or engage in drug abuse. People are educated enough in this nation to know of consequences to their actions, yet want to pass the burden onto society for their personal life style choices.

It comes down to numbers. More people die from cancer, more people are inconvenienced from cancer, ergo we should stop waisting money on a retro-virus and target cellular viruses like cancer. After we deal with cancer, we can concentrate on AIDS.

Only a tiny fraction contract it from Blood Trandfusions the rest via Gay Anal Intercourse between men as the primary culprit.

If you had sex and got AIDS then you reaped what you sowed. However people who got it through medical or where born with it dosen't count.
