At last there is a generic Armour Thyroid drug out and it's all getting hard to get - both Armour + generic.

I wonder what's wrong with the pharmacists / drug companies now// They have to pick on one good drug that's derived from pigs... Armour Thyroid. I'd like to get the generic, but it is also just as expensive as the original -- go figure? Plus they are just making it scarce at least at the moment for me at a couple of pharmacies CVS and Rite Aid> Got any ideas of where to take my complaint?

The other poster stated its not pure, this is not true and has nothing to do with why its difficult to get Armour. Synthroid has been recalled more times than any other thyroid medication for inconsistency. They even had a hard time getting FDA approval.

As more and more people are switching to Armour because they find it works better, the more difficult it will be to get it. Hopefully Forest steps up production of it. Also, just because a cashier at the pharmacy tells you they do not have it, don't believe them. Often the cashiers and techs are lazy about ordering it if its something they don't make a huge amount of money on. Speak to the pharmacy manager. If that doesn't work, go over their head and speak to the manager of all the pharmacies in that area. I had to do that once when some friends bought me a CVS gift card to pay for my ARmour for a few months while my husband was out of work. The tech said it could not be used at the pharmacy. I contacted coporate through the website and got the manager of the pharmacies in New England who had a meeting with all the stores telling them to accept the gift cards at the pharmacy. You can't always believe the cashier and tech. Go over their head if you need to.

Right after I replied to you my husband picked up my 180mg of Armour. He was given 7 pills and told for me to check today to see if the rest came in. I guess Forest is trying to play catch up with the 180mg, but hopefully the issue will be resolved soon and the pharmacies will reorder as needed Report It

It's not a popular drug because it is not very pure. It is dessicated thyroid gland, and it is hard to get consistency. Sometimes, drugs become scarce. It can be because of scarcity of material. There are lists of back ordered drugs and it is on the list.
