How does one get adjusted to wearing hearing aids.? |
I was devastated to know that my right ear is completely damaged. My Doctor has prescribed some drugs and if these don't work then only option are the hearing aids.I am really very scared and depressed. So can any one give me some advice so i can be preapred well in advance Hearing aids are not THAT bad. I have been wearing them since I was in about 4th or 5th grade. When you get fitted for them they will test your hearing thoroughly and the audiologist will recommend what will work best for you. He will order one, make an impression for the ear mold and then call you when it is ready. When it comes in he will adjust it JUST for you so things sound good to you. He will show you how to care for it. You will wear it home and if by ANY MEANS you cannot tolerate it take it off for a little while. Try to wear it as much as you can but if you can't stand it call the audiologist back and he will check things out for you and maybe try a different aid. Once you hear again you will wonder how you got along as well as you did without it. Also hearing aids are cool now. Check this link out. Don't worry about it. First it may never come to that and second if it does they are so small and comfortable now that you will not notice them aftre a couple of weeks. I had the old analogue ones up to a year ago and they were ok. The new digital ones I have now are superb. Please just stop worrying you will be fine. Good luck good post - i have needed hearing aids since i was a child but they were too expensive - now i am almost 60 and i have heard that they are much better, more comfortable and more affordable. It only takes a few weeks to forget that the hearing aids are even there. In your case, if the loss is entirely on one side, there are a couple of surgically implantable hearing aid options as well, one is called the BAHA, the other is called the Vibrant Soundbridge. Lots of options are almost completely invisible these days. |
