Is this the REAL reason for the drug war?

Illegal drugs cross borders illegally. Many a fiction story of spies or other covert activities involve someone being caught smuggling drugs, and pressured into smuggling covert operators in exchange for the drug charge being dropped. Now think of the Iran/Contra scam, where illegal drugs were used as a way to sucker people into aiding the government's covert operations. Is this why we still have a drug war? I mean in addition to all the salaries for cops, prosecuting attorneys, parole officers, probation officers, prison guards, court clerks, etc.

The real reason for the drug war is because politically it sounds good. Families can be devistated when family members are hurt or killed because of the drug trade, or by the loss of family members to addiction - Those families vote and so politicians saw an opportunity to garner votes without thinking it through.

We can NEVER win the war on drugs, but it is NOT exactly like prohibition, the cost on society if all drugs were legalized would be HUGE for rehab etc.

Unfortunately, even without a chance at winning AND the fact it was a political move to get votes, I still think it is something that should still be fought.

There is no reason for the drug wars except to justify the existence of the D.E.A. we did not learn a damn thing from prohibition did we Al we are doing now is increasing dealers profits but that could be what the government wants because that's how they support covert operations in other countries

If you want to know why drugs must be keep off the free market as all of them at one time was sold openly. Look at what happened. The drug dealers pray on the weak and exploit them off there own good. the drugs that are illegal are drugs that kill and use up a person and when some on starts they loss all control. This is why.
