Most of the straight community seems to think that AIDS is a problem of minorities. It's always those homos.. |
those black people in Africa...those IV drug users...etc....They seem to get around any concern that it might be happening in their own back yard. What I see on here about men cheating on their wives with gays...and the general ignorance amongst a great deal of the straight population (and some of the younger gays) makes me really worried. Do they honestly think that AIDS is not a global problem? It's been 25 years and people are sick and/or dying everywhere...and yet mainstream American doesn't seem to think that it is near them. What do you think it will take before 'middle america'(including the whole world) stands up and notices? The deaths of their own children?...I hope not. What can we do to make people aware that this is not a minority problem? it is easy to see why some people choose their screen names. MSboobhead is a mess, an idiot, blithering jerk. Why the attack to a good question. education. but if they refuse to learn there really is nothing we can do people want to belive basd thinfs can't happen to them. they want to believe that even though their 14 year old daughter let her friend pierce her ears or give her a tattoo that there is no way they could get aids from sharing needles. ignorance, stupidity and fear. those people who think it only happens to "minorities" are in denial...they don't want to believe something they think happens only "those people" could actually happen to them. I can only hope they don't continue to be so arrogant that they don't think they need protection and get it themselves/pass it on to others. I don't know what else we can do but continually try to educate them. if we can get through to some of them, we can still make some difference. Dear friend,If I knew the answer to that, I'd be in line for a Nobel prize. How do we stop smoking, and get people to take care of themselves generally My step sisters mom who is white & straight lost her battle with AIDS 8 years ago. She had several boyfriends who were also HIV positive. They all got it from sharing needles for their drugs. I am very aware of how many non minorities die from this & hopefully you've educated at least a few. The fact that you think a straight 'community' actually exists is funny. People are not brought together as a 'community' because of where they put their genitals or who they share their beds with. |
