If AIDS is really the epidemic the media would have us believe, where are all the dead celebrities? |
30 years of AIDS, and only a handful of celebrity deaths from the disease, almost all of whom were gay... If the disease is really such an epidemic, where are all the celebrity deaths of straight, non-intravenous-drug-using celebrities? It's not en epidemic in the sense that it impacts a huge percentage of the population. It is a disease with a lot of suffering, and it is totally preventable. That's why it gets media attention. Pretty stupid question... but here is a list of celebrities with AIDS: Very good 11 people out of oh.... 20,000 celebrities? And many of them (Ashe, Asimov) who got AIDS from blood transfusions. Do the math. AIDS is one of the most difficult diseases to transmit. The media coverage is hype. Report It Y'know, not everyone wants to disclose their HIV status. While some folks wants to be poster children for awareness, others want to treat their illness with discretion. Report It Besides, in many parts of the world, despite the equal biological vulnerability of all folks, it's POOR people who get sick at disproportionate rates. Wanna find lots of AIDS patients? go spend some time in poor communities of color. Report It This might be the most distasteful question I've ever seen. You can prolong it but have to have the funds to do so, ie magic Johnson. Rock Hudson, Liberace, Alan Reed, That guy that played Darren. They're all buried. Also, with the stigma that AIDS wrongfully puts on people they could be dying of Cancer and other diseases in the media while it's really AIDS that's killing them. Celebrities have access to good medical care because they have lots of money. Celebrities tend to be more educated as to how to avoid HIV infection than people in the third world (where AIDS is a HUGE problem). Continental Africa, India, China, even Russia have exploding numbers of HIV cases. Most of these cases are in densley populated areas where education and awareness of the problem are nearly non-existant. Some cultures also have taboos about birth-controll ie. condoms. the dead celebrities are on a shelf somewhere in HOLLYWOOD |
