Is aids a lifestyle diseases.?

Is aids a lifestyle diseases.

you have unprotected sex you catch it

you smoke then you get smoke related illness

you take drugs you get drug related illness

so whats the difference between the three

excluding the people who catch it through blood or medical mistakes

Yes, as long as you consider getting diseases from unprotected sex that is consexual and occurs within the bounds of marriage a lifestyle disease; or if you count "lifestyle" as having painful, violating surgery performed on you as a child without your consent (clitorectomy)--these are two of the main reasons why women in Africa are being infected. And, of course, if you count being born to parents with AIDS as being a lifestyle.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is hat AIDS can be caused by lifestyle decisions, but not always (or even often, in Africa, for women).

Aids can and has been contracted through blood transfusions..

It used to be until the disease got spread because of people of that lifestyle letting their tainted blood get in blood supplies, sharing needles and such.

?? AIDS is the progression of HIV. HIV is an infectious communicable disease NOT a lifestyle disease.

You cannot help the fact that your immune system has been outnumbered by the replication of the HIV virus and taking antiretroviral drugs will delay the time until you progress to AIDS depending on when you were first diagnosed.

with AIDS Acquired Immune Deficiency Sydrome the disease is just acquired and there is a time period until your body can hold up battling with the disease. In AIDS the immune system's cells is very low so your chances of getting secondary infections is VERY high and therefore death can result from the flu or even a bacterial infection.

Derek,

Basically, there is no difference between the three. AIDS or HIV, as you put it, is in fact a life-style disease. Not only is AIDS or HIV a life-style disease, but so too is HPV, Ghonerrea, Syphilis, Herpes, Crabs, etc.

If you want my personal opinion, I think that promiscuous people deserve to get STDs. Really, promiscuous behavior, which is indeed a vile sin, ought to have punishments.

lifestyle disease? LOL, you seek to blame people with diseases for their afflictions, judge 'em all.

I think respiratory diseases should all be classified as lifestyle diseases, since americans choose to live in a polluted country, don't they deserve their respiratory illnesses
(can sound pretty absurd eh?)

please get your information right. aids is a full blown state of having hiv, which is the name of the virus. the virus can be contracted by:
- using an infected needle (like having a tattoo)
- blood transfusion that is tainted with hiv
- having unprotected sex
all humans can get the virus, whenever they are not careful!

hiv does not choose people according to your lifestyle, as long as you are alive and have blood, hiv likes you!

In some ways AIDS can be called a lifestyle disease, so in some ways it can be compared to smoking related diseases and drug related diseases, but it can also be contracted in other ways.

For example, it can be passed from a mother to an unborn child. It can be contracted through blood transfusions.

In terms of life style, having sex is a normal part of everyday life, fulfilling one of the basic needs for most people. Sometimes AIDS is passed on from one partner when the other partner believes that the relationship is monogamous, so the individual who contracts AIDS unknowingly had no reason to think that protection was necessary.

Smoking and taking drugs are personal choices. Contracting AIDS often happens through actions that were not really personal choices.

no i dont think it is, in some cases possibly yes. However there are many inocent victims out in the world who get it via other forms, poor hygene or even a child caught it from parents during pregnancy,

Also smoking is not a lifestyle disease, you could be an unlucky perosn who works somewhere that allows smoking and get passive smoking or even work in a power station and get smoking related illness from the fumes.

No, in the beginning AIDS was called the Thin disease. It was only affecting gay men. No one knew what the disease was about and nobody cared. Then it became known as AIDS. People who were not gay started getting the disease. Then finally medical science started investigating for a cure. You used to live for one year with AIDS, now 15 or more years is possible. AIDS is single largest cause of death in Africa. On top of that no disease is a lifestyle disease. My best friend died from AIDS, he was a nurse and got it from someone else's blood. Lifestyle is an ugly word. You cannot get a lifestyle disease. You don't choose the gay lifestyle. (Why would you deliberately choose a lifestyle that most people dislike). Your lifestyle did not choose your parents. If that was true I would be Bill Gates' brother.
