Financial Aid for convicted felon, Drug Charge? |
NO prior record, made a very bad mistake for a boyfriend. I paid the price for the mistake as well. I completed a state certified ATU program. Simple girl from a small town made a big mistake, does this really have to dictate the path of the rest of my life. I dont want it too. I have goals and dreams, all I can see now are the road blocks.....ADVISE PLEASE!!! Thank you everyone for your answers, this has got to be the most unfair due to circumstance situation I have found myself in. I am judged by everyone due to this. I am at a lost right now as to what to do. I don't want people to think of me as a bad person because of a mistake, I take responsibility for my actions, however, it really bothers me that now I have a mistake that will follow me the rest of my life.. You would think that there would be some organization out there to help people like me. That have demonstrated that it was a once in a life time mistake, people that Really want to put the past behind and move on... I know, isn't that just a dumb fu**** up policy? I mean, what about people who commit serious violent crimes, like rape and murder? They could be convicted, do some time, go on parole, get rehabbed, and get money to get a college degree... Seriously, the application doesn't even ask. not everyone with a drug related felony is turned down. you can still qualify for partial aid depending on whether you were charged with possession or selling...I have a manufacturing charge only, so I qualify and can get full aid. don't count yourself out before filling out the fafsa yourself! Report It I know you can no longer receive financial aid if you have a felony. I am not sure about a misdemeanor. You can not recieve federal financial aid for college if you have a drug felony charge. You couls still go to college, but you will have to pay for it yourself through students loans. When applying for finacial aid do not mention that fact. The same goes for fasfa. They do not check. if you received financial aid when you were convicted of a drug charged, then you will not be able to receive financial aid. i heard that in some circumstances you can still get fin aid it depends on your case and the school. Unfortunately yes they can keep you from getting financial aid for drug charges. If you do not disclose the information and they do find out you will be forced to pay back all the financial aid as well as the fines and fees which are enormous! You are better off to admit it and then see what happens. exhaust all your appeals! You can go to the school you wish to attend and appeal as well! I find it sick that others are encouraging you to lie on your paperwork. It's called karma...what comes around, goes around. There are some scholarship giveaway sites that might help you. These are like contests-- your name is drawn and you win the money. The scholarship can be used for any educational opportunity. You'll find more info about financial aid too: |
