What are the financial aid options for a non-drug felon?

An old friend is about to be released from prison and belives that there is ample financial aid opportunities for her because of the length of time she has spent in prison (>10yrs). She has not received any aid before nor was she convicted of a violent OR drug related crime. She's serving time in Oregon and says that Texas, where she will be living needs some additional info, but I can not find any. Any help you may provide is greatly appreciated.

the fafsa does ask if you are a convicted felon...but that doesnt necessarily meas you will get turned down...

The government financial aid program http://www.fafsa.ed.gov does not ask any questions about felonies. Therefore, they do not give out aid based on jail time.

I don't think she has an accurate picture. Most scholarships are given based on financial need or merit (volunteer activities, GPA, good behavior) etc. Being in prison is not thought to reflect well on a person's character (although to be fair she may have changed) and this may hinder her from getting merit scholarships if she mentions it.
