What is the first aid for drug overdose?

What is the first aid for drug overdose?

The hospital.

Hospitalization. Charcoal treatments... you can't do them at home, it is a special formula to meant to detox the stomach, liver and kidneys.

Call 911.

Induce vomiting. Drink lots and lots of milk.

It all depends on what a person has taken, when they took it, with what(ie alcohol,etc)...treatment should be administered in an emergency setting at a hospital....under the direction of a poison resource center & an MD. Can involve as little as observation...or as much as flushing the stomach & instilling a charcoal solution to help detoxify.

Try to keep the person awake & responsive.

Hospitalization, of course.

It depends upon what the person overdosed on.

If it was a narcotic, narcan is the antidote

romazicon is used for other classes of drugs that are often abused, leading to overdose.

Activated charcoal ( usually with sorbital) is used for many ingested drugs that are still in the stomach and have not gone into the blood stream yet.

There are other anidote and antagonist medications used also, but the ones I have listed are the most common. Again it really depends upon what the person overdosed on.

If it is something caustic, DO NOT induce vomitting because it can cause burns to the esophogus going back up and create more problems. Best bet is to call poison control and 911 right away

First of all, call a poison control center, or go to the ER. They will probably just have to pump your stomach or keep you in the hospital for an overnight, just to see if you are going to be o.k. Best of luck to you!

CALL 911

call Poison Control or 911.

make them vomit

You must go to the hospital. If you know that someone has overdosed on a drug, or you find someone who you think, or know, has overdosed, there are things you can do. First, call 911 or your local emergency number. Then, assess the person. Make sure that their airway is clear and that they are breathing. If they are breathing, check for a pulse. If they have a pulse, talk to them. Instruct them to lie still. Ask them the day, time, and where they are. Then ask them what they took, and how many pills they took, if they can remember.

Once the ambulance arrives, they will be taken to the hospital. If they are not breathing, an endotracheal tube will be inserted. This will allow the paramedics, and later the nurses at the ER, to breathe for the patient. Once they arrive in the emergency department, they will be hooked to a cardiac monitor. Their vital signs will be monitored carefully, and a nasogastric, or NG, tube will be inserted into their nose. This tube will lead to their stomach. Next, activated charcoal will be given through the tube. Suction will be attached to the tube. The contents of the stomach will be suctioned back out. An IV will have been started by now, and depending on the type of overdose, some drugs may have been given. Drugs like Mucomist, Narcan, and Naloxone are used in an overdose situation. If the person has an endotracheal tube, they will be sent to the ICU, if not they will probably be admitted to a medical floor to be observed over night.

Depending on what drug it is. If it is a pill form you need to go to the hospital so they can give you ativated charcoal which makes you throw it up but if its something serious like heroin or coke you will need to s till go to the hosp and get narcan. Either way no matter what it is GO TO THE HOSPITAL!!!
