Will pharmaceutical companies suffer financial hardships if generic Aids drugs are made purchased in Africa?

Not really. First of all, the pharmaceutical industry is consistently one of the most profitable industries in the West. Second of all, the vast majority of their money comes from treatments of diseases more prevalent in the West (like cancer, high cholesterol, insomnia, heartburn, etc... not the diseases of Africa). Thirdly, Africa comprises a very small portion of the market for AIDS drugs because so few Africans with AIDS are financially able to afford treatment. And AIDS drugs are a very small part of the pharmaceutical market overall.

And another thing, according to the World Trade Organization rules, a country is allowed to produce generic drugs if they are facing a public health crisis. And if anything is a public health crisis, AIDS is.

The same goes for there harassment of the Brazilian government for using what they have naturally in the Amazon river basin, that pharmaceutical companies have synthesized and patented. It's wrong, but they won't change.
