Illinois -Kid over 18 busted for possession of drug paraphernalia (bowl) - no possession of drugs.?

No prior record. Don't want conviction on record for job and financial aid reasons. Can public defender get him off or should I hire a private attorney? Looking for expert or first-hand knowledge answers please.

According to NORML, there's no punishment for JUST paraphernalia. If they're prosecuting, it likely involves resin on the bowl. Whatever the case, it's a misdemeanor and should have no impact on job/finances. You're probably looking at a fine and probation/community service if anything.

If you have smoked weed out of it dont bother, they can take swabs to prove that you smoked the mary dope or at least had possesion of it.

I would plead guilty and see what bargains you can get out of it.

In all likely hood youll only get community service just because you didnt actually have the substance there.

If you don't want a conviction on his record, hire a lawyer to get rid of it. If you take your chances without an attorney, you will get a record. Even with community service. And to drive the point home to him, he needs to pay for the attorney.
