Do Christians feel that everyone deserves healthcare?

I was at my fundy sisters house last weekend and was reading a magazine called "World." It's a born-again version of "Time" or "Newsweek." I was shocked to find three ads for healthcare "insurance" companies for Christians that worked on the principles of not covering certain conditions. They wouldn't cover anything that had to do with an "immoral" lifestyle.

Could you help me understand what this means? It can't mean abortions, because no insurance covers that anyway. One of the companies said they refused to cover anything to do with drugs or alcohol or things like AIDS.

If you support this type of mindset, can you help me understand what SHOULD be done with someone who has a drug or alcohol related problem? What about a sexually transmitted disease? Do you really believe we should just let them die? Please help me understand.

Obviously not look at this article where british run charity RAM deliver free healthcare to people in Tennessee, there is a queue around the block, this charity was set up to do work in the third world but now does 60% of its work with the working poor in america.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/america...

they pull out 416 teeth and give away 200 pairs of specs in a weekend

That makes me sick. Any sick CEO or owner of an insurance company with this type of selfish black-and-white moral mindset in his puny child molesting brain should be annilhated immediately.
Christians can either take one thing or everything. They need to stop hiding from the truth and actually treating other people like human beings and being pompous selfish consuming creatures. Having AIDS does not make you immoral. That is a synthetically transmitted disease not even originated in true Africa. Any insurance company that refuses to provide or adhere to birth control should also be eradicated.
Instantly.

This is just madness.

I do believe that everyone deserves health care. But your question points out my one reservation. What is to keep the State from refusing to cover health care costs related to "immoral" lifestyles like smoking or over-eating? Or having lots of kids? These three seem to be the only remaining social sins of our era. Will the government legislate against them because of the costs associated with their consequences? I think health care should be available to everyone... period, whether I agree with their lifestyle or not.

peace

If the company was for Christians then apparently they were making it clear that if a Christian suffers from an "act of God" they are willing to help but if they suffer from their sins then they need to look to God for help and not the company.

There are ministries that help people with drug and alcohol problems and with sexually transmitted diseases. Apparently the insurance companies don't feel called to serve in that area because they are running a business and perhaps they want Christians to remember that there is an earthly penalty for sin even if the eternal penalty has already been paid by the Lord Jesus.

That's hideous!

What if someone got HIV/AIDS because their spouse cheated and then passed the virus to them! Or through a blood transfusion.

(Not that I condemn people who get it through sex.)

Oh well, honestly, anyone who signs up with one of those companies is a moron who is in total denial of the fact that life is unpredictable.

That's absolutely terrible. I just can't imagine why this sort of attitude would be productive in gaining business.

It seems like by buying their insurance, you're giving the company the MORAL authority to determine whether or not you DESERVE treatment. Wow, this really bothers me.

it probably has something to do with personal responsibility...why should a person who tries to live right and healthy pay for people who willing risk themselves into getting certain diseases or conditions because they choose to live an unhealthy lifestyle...

((laptop))

i can't understand... i can't even begin to understand it...

i don't know what to say...

lately all my heart does it break over and over again..

i would become a hermit but then i would miss all of you!

Omg....WTF? #12.

Sure; Socialism for everyone...

I am Born Again..and this really bothers me!!! What????? Everyone deserves good/great health care!
Since when did /does Jesus turn his back on the sick???

I DO NOT agree with this. But I can explain and support the idea.
I believe in equal rights for all. But I don't believe in forcing someone who owns a business to go against their beliefs in order to serve me. I'll go to another business if they don't offer what I need.
If I am Black, and own a lunch counter, I should not be forced to serve Klansmen who come for lunch. If I know that a shopkeeper is racist, and doesn't want to serve blacks, let him be that way. I won't shop there (I'm not black, but I would definitely keep my money away from that!) If I am Christian, and start an insurance company, I should not be forced to cover things I consider to be 'evil'.
These people may be acting in a way that makes your skin crawl. It does mine. But If others are forced to disregard their beliefs for the sake of mine, my beliefs are every bit as much in danger of being disregarded.
I'll go to another insurance company, thank you. The people who support these types of businesses are showing their own true colors. And it isn't pretty.

Blessings!

Yes.

However, I think the government is the least efficient way to distibute it. They fail at everything they do, so why trust them with our health care?

Look how well they succeeded at:

education
fighting terrorism
collecting taxes
keeping politicians honest

etc.

I am all for a tax credit for all Americans to get their own private health care plan. For those that are too poor to pay taxes, a check will do just as well.

P.S. I just realized that I completely did not read you question, and did not answer it. Although I can say all I want that AIDS is a disease you choose to get (it is VERY easy not to get, just have sex with one person), I still could not refuse healthcare to someone who is dying of that disease.
