Champix.....smoking aid....details?

My husband would like to try Champix to help him stop smoking. Has anyone had any experience with this type of drug? Also, is it a prescribed drug? How much does it cost in Canada? Do you think health insurance would cover the costs?

It is called Champix in Canada....Chantix in the U.S. Same drug though. I just researched it and there are alot of side effects....it sounds like it turns you into a psychotic headcase. Any success stories?

hi, i have been on champix for 2.5 months and have not had a fag for 8 weeks (it makes you feel sick at the thought of one) but you still need that 'will power'. It does make you feel nausious if you take it without food. And you do pass alot of wind. You do need a prescription for it. I am in Australia and it costs $31, for each. (apparently it was over $200 when first came out) mind you i would pay $1000 for it. Better than patches. sorry no idea about the health insurance as every insurer is different (should be covered)
You need to take champix for about a week and half before you want to give up. Good luck to him.

It is called Chantix, I have not taken it, I quit cold turkey on my own, but there were reports of really bad hallucinations with this drug and people have commited suicide while on it. Check it out before he takes it. Good luck
