Over the counter/vitamin/self-medicatin鈥?ADD ADHD remedies?

I was previously prescribed an ADD amphetamine (Dexedrine), became addicted to it, and no longer have the option of amphetamines. I am also afraid to take anything that causes euphoria or has addiction potential.
What I've tried so far, and has worked to an extent: loading up on diet coke/coffee, drinking a little tequila, taking a very small dose of a sleep aid, taking a daily Omega 3 (not sure if that helps, but I read to try it), and Valerian Root. (And exercise and eating healtheri.) I am really struggling without help.
I've heard that Strattera is a non-stimulant drug, but I don't want to take it because of its black box warning/potential to cause death.
Has anyone found themselves/heard of ADD remedies that don't involve prescriptions drugs? (over-the counter, day-to-day things)

i was on straterra and HATED it. the side effects were worse than the problem. also, for teenagers it has a chance of causing suicide-level depression, esp if the person already has a history of depression. i only know of one other person that tried straterra and he said it gave him a terrible temper. i'm sure it works for some people, but it was terrible for me.

i have 2 friends that are prescribed marijuana for add at the moment. it's a little unorthodox, but they are my classmates and (until I got on dexadrine) seemed to do better in class than me (we're all physics majors, so imagine having add and then trying to pay attn to something like that). the reason behind weed working is that it makes you a little dopey in the first place and it teaches you techniques to pay attention. as in,. you're high and it's hard, so you try really hard and you learn how to do it and work with your add instead of medicating it. that is a natural way, but illegal in most states.

other natural things:

choline (helps with memory altogether)
avoid sachrine (really, just all sugar substitutes)
try taking over the counter allergy meds daily even if you aren't having symptoms
ginko
chamomile
5-HTP


the last 3 are all calming natural supplements... if you go to a health foods store, just look for calming complexes... should slow you down a bit. good luck!

Strattera is very good and actually has a less than 1 % chance of death but due to government standards it has to be on the box My daughter took it and it was like a miracle drug it helped her stay focused other than that I don't know of anything over the counter that helps however if you have a vitamin store they could tell you Good Luck
