Is Bactrim a dangerous drug?

Bactrim "sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim". What kind of drug is it actually? Is it an antibiotic? Or does it just aid in the use of antibiotics? It seems like it has a lot of side-effects that are unpredictable and potentially harmful. For an intestinal infection that is usually treated with Flagyl (metronidazole), is the addition of Bactrim really necessary or safe?

It's an antibiotic, and you are talking about 2 totally diferrent types of antibiotics that work in entirely diferrent ways. It's been around for a long ,time.. All medication can cause side effects .
