What can I put over photographs to make them waterproof/seal them? I am trying to make a usable table.? |
I am making a "photo table" out of 8'x4' plywood and tons of pictures. I am wondering what I could put over top of the photos to make them waterproof or seal them so that the table is usable for eating, drinking, etc. and won't get ruined. I was thinking mod podge or polyurethane? Would this ruin the pictures? Any suggestions on what I can use to seal the table?? The pictures were all developed at a local drug store photo shop (rite aid, cvs, walgreens) so it's not ink jet photo paper where the ink could smear. It will be used as a game table for parties,etc. so I'd rather not use glass or anything breakable. I'm really looking for something I could easily paint overtop that won't ruin the photos. Also so they won't get ruined if something happens to spill I would suggest Envirotex. It is a thick sealant that works great for this exact product. In fact, at the craft store I used to work at we created a table top with photos on it and put the Envirotex over it. It is a little pricey, but anything for that size of a project is going to be pricey. You really have a costly idea. A good piece of glass that size probably would be a lot of money and I know heavy. Plexiglas's would be nice but after a few cleanings might get scratches and not look good. At the stores they sell table cloth protectors that are clear plastic. If you paint the table and place the pictures then cover with plastic table cloth protector you'll be able to wipe clean. If you can afford to laminate the pictures first it would be nice. the safest way w/o using chemicals would be to just use a sheet of plexiglass or regular glass for that matter, and have wood all around the edge to hold it in place, then just silicone the gaps between the material and the wood edges Glass works great, and won't ruin your photos. glass would work the best but you could also laminate them you could get them laminated put down plastic wrap then glass so if a drink spills and goes through it wont harm your photos A sheet of glass |
