Few questions I need help with about joining military? |
Alright so the first is, I am looking to join the Marine Corps when I graduate. I am currently seeing a therapist to help with my minor depression and uncontrollable anxiety. I've been seeing this lady for a couple weeks and plan to for at least another couple months. I've heard people say you should lie about that sort of thing at MEPS, is that true? I'm not crazy or anything I've just been going through a lot lately and needed some help. I wasnt planning on taking anything while at boot, I just dont know if i should tell my recruiter. And I'm seeing the therapist to help me with the problem and to help me deal with them, hopefully they wont be as bad when I join. I really want to be a Marine and know if I want something nothing will stop me like these problems. I'm just worried about MEPS. If you've got psychological problems now, they'll only manifest stronger while you're at Boot Camp. It's very demanding physically and mentally, and they purposely put a lot of stress on you to not only give you an idea of what it's like in the military, but to see how you handle it. They also would not allow you to take painkillers and sleep aids while you're at Boot. As far as your foot injury goes, I think that might give you problems as well. It is not uncommon for people to lie to their recruiter/MEPS. You should however think about your experience in boot camp. There was a guy in my platoon with the same story (as far as the foot). He didn't tell anyone about it, except for a couple recruits. One day while being IT'ed, it started to bother him again. Fast forward a week and we were doing the O' Course. He was up on one of the logs, and the pain got too much for him. He fell off, and on his way down, he hit his head, and subsequently was brain-damaged. I found out later that he had three fractures in his foot. If he would have told his recruiter, they would have gotten him a waiver, and after the ordeal, he would have been medically retired and would have his health care taken care of for the rest of his life. The Marine Corps found out, discharged for fraudulent enlistment, and his parents were stuck with the bill. Whether it is the Marine Corps or any other branch of service, basic training (boot camp) is very demanding. You say you have been going through a lot lately, but whatever it is, it is not nearly what you would be going through in boot camp. Especially in the Marind Corps. Your anxiety and depression levels would greatly increase. You may be able to lie about it to your recruiter, but it would be discovered at MEPS. Do not lie. well first off quit taking the painkillers, they will show up in your urinalysis at MEPS. i would tell your recruiter about your foot because when i went to MEPS we stripped down to our underwear and had to do various exercises, including rolling your ankle and wiggling your toes. you can probably just get a waiver for that and save yourself a lot of trouble. |
