Seeing dots everywhere.?

For as long as I can remember, I have always had this visual anomaly of seeing trillions of multi-coloured dots over everything. Basically, I can not see a solid colour in its purest form. As it is difficult to describe, I've attached a visual aid.

What I'm supposed to see: http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/416/roo...

What I do see: http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/2963/ro...

I have found similar cases online, but I have yet to find one exactly like mine. Most of my results are people who see black, white, or red dots that flash, and are temporary. These do not flash; they sort of linger like static. They do not manifest from bumping my head, sneezing, or anything else that people often claim to see dots after. They're just there -- and always have been.

I have never done drugs.

I am a synaesthete, but do not believe this is attributed to it.

I am seeking input as to what this may be. IE. Is there a name for it? How common is it? What causes it? Should I be alarmed? Etc.

Thank you.

"Visual Snow", which is sometimes also identified or mis-identified as "persistent migraine aura."
(the whole area is not well understood: there may be one varied condition or more than one condition...)
The forum attached to the images below is a good place ot start.

Go to an eye doctor.

Oh Dear. please go to the Cleveland Clinic Website, and look at the various forms of diseases of the eye.
Or go to Google and type in -----Amsler Grid---
Print this out and hang on your fridge, there are lines, vertical and horizontal on the grid and a tiny dot in the middle. Stand about 14 inches away from the grid and look at the dot in the middle, now cover your right eye and look at the dot in the middle of the grid, now cover your left eye. Do you see straight lines with either eye, and no blank spots on the grid, or do you see curvy lines with either eye and blank spots in the middle of the grid, or do you see blank spots as dots all over the grid. If the lines are curvy with either eye and there are blank spots, please make an appointment with a good Ophthalmologist in your area, and he will probably dilate your eyes and look at the back of the eye, the retina and the macula, the macula is responsible for our close vision, the vision we read with, sew with. without vision in it, we can still see peripheral vision but we lose peoples faces, cannot read or see the television. This is not something to fool around with, this could be a medical emergency, when you call to make an appointment be sure and mention the dots over everything.
