The earth suffers from the mass amounts of people that emit poisonous gasses into the atmosphere every single second that ticks by on the clock. Automobiles burn fuel on joy rides through the country side. People smoke a variety of drugs from cigarettes to crystal meth. Forests are cut down purely for the need of wood for our fires to cook the meat that we grow on land where mighty trees once stood. Our obsession with eating other animals, this complex that we suffer from that causes us to continually show our dominance on the food pyramid, causes deforestation for grazing land as well as an obscene amount of methane being released from these fated creatures. The death of these plants and animals that follow our need to warp the environment to our liking causes a release of chemicals, mostly carbon dioxide, into the air. So yes, continue to gorge on your meat, keep on deforesting our only salvation, take another spin around the block in your gas guzzling SUV, and light up another stoagie, your children will suffer as a result. The only true solution is to either change the habits that have been beaten into our genetic code for hundreds of years and revert to coexisting with nature, start working on a journey to another universe in which we can live, or set a limit on the amount of lives allowed to exist on the planet at once.
Some higher power may have already been trying to put this population control into effect by spreading the disease of bloodthirst throughout mankind. Genocides, massacres, murder, suicide, serial killing, and wars are spreading throughout the world and yet we continue to defy these efforts to keep those unnafected alive. Yes, there is suffering of our fellow man in other parts of the world yet we are suffering as a result of stopping them from dying. Our troops are dying to rectify the governments of other countries. Our food supplies are going to underdeveloped nations rather than our own homeless. Think of it from a Darwinism standpoint in which we are all the stronger species for having built this great nation in which we suffer so much less than the other places in the world. We have earned our right to live, why do we give it willingly up to those that are doomed anyways. Yes, we can stop those being tortured from bleeding yet we cannot stop their internal clock from ticking towards that final gasp for air.
Our planet is dying and we, the guardians of this beautiful world, are lost in our own selfish desires to make things more simple by means of complex procedures taking place in labs and factories across the world. When we can simply make things easier by looking to the past. We were happier back then. It really does not matter what each and every one of us does in the world, because we are going to die, we are going to lose this sight before us, this sound we take in, these scents that refresh our minds, these sensations that send quivers through our being. Do something to aid the future generations to set out on the right path, start acting human. You are 100% correct. We should eradicate the human race. You go first. The Planet is a LIVING ORGANISM.. it will do what it must to repair itself!! Its human nature to desire certain things, and that will never change. Things will only get worse for the enviornment before they begin to get better. If its possible for an animal to become extinct, then its possible for mankind to become extinct. Hey, cheer up! Life's not all THAT bad, is it?
As for me,... I can honestly say that I truly enjoy Life.
What I mean is, - I've invested quite well, most of it being in oil and natural gas, and the money just keeps pouring in. In any given week I receive checks for hundreds, sometimes thousands, of dollars; it's ridiculous, really...:-))
So, as it stands, I can afford to waste, indefinitely, any of the Earth's natural resources that I wish to, - and in any manner that I see fit.
I have no kids that I know of so I don't give any thought to the so-called 'disastrous' ecological outcomes that I might, in some small way, be contributing to.
However, if any of you have had the unfortunate luck of having kids, - just tell them I said, "Sorry, - and no hard feelings."...;-)
- Your whole way of thinking is based on the notion that WE, the human race, are not a natural part of this planet and its biosphere. You talk as though we are aliens that descended from space and proceeded to destroy the planet.
Well, obviously, you are completely wrong. Humans are native to this planet, just like oak trees and jellyfish. We do what it is in out nature to do. We are not equipped with chlorophyll, so we can't make food out of sunlight and water. We aren't as strong or as fast as many animals. We can't fly, and are poor swimmers. Our survival depends on using our brains, so that is what we do. Every thing we do is because it is in our nature to do it. And that includes creating and using technology. When this alters the environment, all the affected species, including humans, either adapt or go extinct. That is how life works.
I have heard a few idiots say that humans should never try to colonize another planet because we would "ruin it, too"! That is ridiculous. If it were not natural for us to do it, then we would never be able to do it.
Oh yes - the Earth? Global warming? Let me tell you a fact or two. All of human history has occurred in a brief period between ice ages. This planet doesn't consider us its "naughty children" for making the planet warmer! The Earth, by itself, with no help from us, gets much hotter than this. It melts ALL the ice, then the ocean currents get disrupted, and a new Ice Age starts. Our species can survive the climate getting hotter. But if the majority of this planet is covered by mile-thick glaciers, then civilization is dead, along with oak trees, squirrels, and eagles. If we can keep a new Ice Age from happening, then we will. We will have no other choice. I'm sorry that you feel that way, but the problem is letting thought be the masters of people. Thought sees hierarchy and hierarchy produces waste. Holarchy is what nature uses. Thought makes a great servant but a horrible master.
I'm sorry to say it but the planet is nowhere near hurt. The planet is not nearly as fragile as Al Gore would like you to believe. CO2 is not the stuff floating above L.A. It's the stuff that makes plants grow larger compared to any other factor.
Overpopulation is NOT an issue. It's easy to think that because of all these political organizations that say it is on TV. The truth is every person could live comfortably in Australia. Hydroponics is a growing trend that solves the issue of top soil loss.
We eat meat because meat has certain vitamins and minerals you can't find in plants that are important to live a healthy life. We could easily eat less meat. The deforestation is due to horrible business practices. The bovine pack the earth down making it harder for vegetation to grow BUT that can be remedied pretty easily, but it's slightly easier to cut down more trees.
I don't understand what your objection to drugs has anything to do with the rest of your rant. Drugs are not bad. Certain drugs have negative effects on health and others do not. Drugs as a broad term means nothing really, it's political in nature. Marijuana for example is the best medicine that has ever existed and has been in use for thousands of years. It has no ill effects (more than willing to fill you in).
I know how easy it is to believe the hype on the TV, because it's so wide reaching and potent, but they make money by telling the worst news they can. It's a business like any other, money comes before the truth, if the truth ever comes at all. Crap.
Go back 100 years, and the average lifespan in the US (which seems to be the only place you think counts) was less than 50
Without synthetic fertilisers, the carrying capacity of the planet would be less than half what it is today.
We cannot massacre the planet, which can perfectly well do without us.
In between, you actually say a few sensible things, like meat-eating being a drain on limited resources. hey...most of the smoke is not from people lighting up doobies.....its from all the nonsense factories...and cars ...and ships and planes...and power plants etc......infact the ppl that light them joints...they are the ones that probably think about saving the planet.....the rest are too caught up with profit....
the past is never the answer...we have to move forwards...but we need to learn lessons for todays problems.....yesterday did not have things the way we do.......we need to move forward and learn new lessons...we are capable....we can use information from the past...but we need to apply that to today..... Species come and go on this planet. The ones that can survive the changes do, those that can not, do not.
There will be another impact with the planet that will change the environment such that human life will be extinguished if something else has not extinguished it first.
In the true sense of birth and death, our planet was never born. However in the eclectic world of metaphor, ok. The planet coalesced from gas and particles by gravity into a lump and eventually picked up enough matter to form a planet. Someday, the earth will join with other matter to make a bigger planet or something will strike the Earth and break it into smaller pieces. Do you remember the comets that ran into Jupiter a few years ago? From our perspective, not much of an event. When the big thing made the hole near Roswell NM, there was a small event on Earth. Imagine if the same size rock hits...NYC...Moscow...Beijing. Now that would be an event!
