Should I get a prescription sleeping pill? |
I've been on some combination of anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications since I was twelve. (Don't judge my parents, I was in a constant state of inexplicable terror for months at a time, I needed the anti-anxiety, and then my dad died when I was 14, and I started failing school, so I needed the anti-depressants.) I'm 18 now, and just finished getting off all those kinds of meds. All I take now is Deplin, which in addition to being a mild anti-depressant has B vitamins that I'm deficient in because of a genetic mutation. I also have trouble sleeping. I don't have a sleep disorder. I just seem to lack the ability to become tired unless I've been awake for 18 hours or more. I've tried several sleep aids as well. The latest I was on was 10mg of Seroquel for awhile which only worked for a couple days before I had to triple the dose for minimal effects only to make me sleep 12 hours once I finally slept. AmbienCR worked for a little while before I doubled or tripled my doses just to fall asleep, but I didn't wake up groggy afterward. I did grow somewhat dependent on them, however, so I recommend against that. Lunesta worked somewhat for me, but usually only if I took 30 minutes before I intended to sleep and got in bed and closed my eyes. I had no feeling of dependency while taking it. If I didn't get in bed and close my eyes within an hour of taking it then it would be completely ineffective. Nyquil works for me as an over the counter, but it has large doses of tylenol which is bad for your liver with prolonged use. I'm not familiar with all your medications, but I take 40mg of Lexapro which is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor. It doesn't help me fall asleep, but it does make me feel more rested with less sleep. I can sleep 5 hours and wake up completely rested. They say a glass of red wine a day is good for the heart, but it can be hard to make yourself stop at just one plus it amplifies the effectiveness of the other medications you've taken. When you see your doctor next I would just ask him for samples of other sleep aids. He can give you a week or more supply to try and you an schedule a followup 7 days later to find out if you need something else to suit your needs. Most over the counter sleep aids, for me, require doses that are dangerous for long term use so a prescription is the best way to go healthwise in my opinion. Hope this is in some way helpful. Hi, my friend. I used to feel the same way like you did (not that serious). I myself is an architect. I used to have troubled w/ sleeping because I deal w/ a lot of projects. I slept 4hrs a day sometime when it comes to crazy schedule. You can say I was kinda stress out. One day, my friend introduced me a product that helps you sleep better. Expensive but great results... It works wonder for me and it still is. That's the link down there. A lot of information about the item and provide clinical studies of this particular product to make sure it's safe to use. It also has video. Enjoy and hope this link can help you. Feel better. |
