Are you for or against assisted suicide?

Assisted suicide is the process by which an individual, who may otherwise be incapable, is provided with the means (drugs or equipment) to commit suicide. In some cases, the terms aid in dying or death with dignity are preferred.[1] These terms are often used to draw a distinction from suicide; in some legal jurisdictions, "suicide" (whether assisted or not) remains illegal, while "aid in dying" is permitted.

Personally, I am for but I don't have any good arguments.

I am for it, but only for a very small section of people, such as terminally ill or certain cases of palliative care. However, there should be a registration process and multiple doctor verification. The legislation would have to be carefully worded so it doesn't conflict with current laws meant to protect those with depression.

And if my husband or loved one decided to end their life because they were suffering ALS or similar - drowning daily in their own saliva knowing full well what was going on but being unable to stop it - I would help them without a second thought... but maybe a long goodbye.

Personally I belive that suicide is wrong. Assisted or not. I am 14 and last year I had planned on killing myself. My only friend came along and helped me get through it. I am glad that I hadn't killed myself and I am glad that my guy friend helped me. We are now dating and I really have a good reason to love him. My life has improved from "wanting to kill myself" to "I love my life" I am so glad that my friend didn't let me kill myself. I think all people should be like my boyfriend and help someone learn how to love their life instead of helping them kill themselves.

EDIT: I belive anyone who would help someone else kill themeselves is a complete idiot. I would feel so guilty if I had helped someone die.

When a pet is suffering or any animal, we, humans call it "humane" to put the animal to death in a very similar way as you have described.
If it is "humane" to do that, wouldn't be even more so to help a person who is so ill and only because of modern medicine is alive and didn't die at a much younger age of a much more common disease as it was before 1950?
The diseases we are dealing with in today's world are far worse than some can imagine suffering through. I believe people should have a choice but to ensure that someone is trying to kill another to gain financially that person must be in the right state of mind or have a legal document drawn up before the time they want to die saying this is what they want.
You would have to have a disease that you are dying from and would be dead in a short amount of time anyway. Why put a person on so many pain meds only to lengthen their time here if that is not what they would want anymore than to remain on life support if you were dying of cancer or Aids? If they are capable of pushing the button or they have signed a document stating during a specific time or way of how bad their life would get to have this choice would be very controversial religiously speaking but very important to many people in this world.

Deffs against it think about it could you really help someone kill themselves?
It's something you would have to live with for the rest if your life, These people would have someone that loved them and you would be helping them take themselves away from that.
Suicide is sad and horrible there is no way it should be allowed that someone can help someone kill themself!

I am for, but think those that believe it is wrong have not thought about the reasons for it. Typically, assisted suicide isn't used just because someone wants to end their life, but rather because they are terminally ill, or living in extreme pain.

I am for it in the case of terminal and painfull illness. We don't let our house pets suffer needlessly when they are terminal and in pain. Why do we treat humans less so than our own pets?

I am for it and I thought they should have left Dr. Kevorkian alone
