Swine flu... isnt it bizaar...?

Swine flu has become a major issue, for reasons i'm not really sure of, because in the end it's only flu, and HONESTLY not that many people die from it... but... could it be a money making scheme from the pharmacuitical/medical industries?.. raking in billions of money for this so called Vaccine (we are in a recession)... aside from mexico it's hit all the major countries and really quickly, like USA, Australia, UK... i dont see poor africa getting all panicy about the swine flu and buying drugs worth millions....hmmm?

ALSO if your immune system was left alone to fight swine flu by itself, without the aid of drugs, provided you're a healthy person who can do this, surely you're immune system will be stronger?

They are overreacting. A lot of it has been promoted by the media trying to get a good news story. They are supposed to report the news, not cause mass panic. The media has blown this way out of proportion. These cable news pundits who are giving 24-hour coverage to this flu are the same folks who had us convinced avian flu was going to end civilization as we knew it a few years back.

They're also the same people who told us West Nile virus was going to become some sort of uncontrollable plague.

Of course, as we all know now, nothing close to their dire predictions ever came to pass.

There's a lot of confusion regarding swine flu. Every time someone comes down with the flu, we're going to need to see whether it's this new variety. And, of course, plenty of people (especially the immune-compromised) die from plain old flu every year. Respect it. Be cautious about it. Don't panic about it.

Wash your hands often -- maybe even carry some hand sanitizer with you. Stay away from people who are sick. Give your immune system a boost by taking vitamins and eating healthy whole foods -- and stay away from the cheap, processed carbohydrates and if you're not feeling well, go and see your doctor.

the primary concern is that its not one we HAVE a vaccine for like common influenza.... and if a person just thinks its a cold and doesn't take time to recover or go to the doctor then they COULD end up pretty bad off.... the thing is in VERY poor countries people do die from things as common as a cold so one more type of flu isn't a big deal because death rates are SO much higher there that they are used to it. its only in the countries where people are used to being able to prevent most deaths and control most diseases that they were so nervous.

Take craig c's answer and add the facts #1 there is no virus that any vaccine can help right now anyway. When we get a yearly "flu shot" what it does is gives us a small bit of the influenza the medical advisory committee it's an educated guess at the type of influenza they think will hit the area in that given year. Then our immune systems build up an immunity to that one virus. When another virus hits instead we will get it but maybe not as bad. This is the theory behind any vaccine against any virus. This would also answer the last part of your question. I truly don't remotely consider the fact that this is a money making scheme by the pharmaceutical company's at all. You also have where it hit first all backwards. It's believed that this mutated flu came from a child in Mexico and then spread world wide. This is so because of the faster ways of transportation from years ago. This flu is still going around the USA and I've answered 2 inquiry's about it from the UK saying that they are just preparing for it. Anything that is contagious by a respiratory illness travels so fast by one person being infected and not ill yet sneezing or coughing in a crowded area, and not covering the mouth will infect anyone within 25 feet of them. This is how far the droplets from these things go. Now these people are carrying this home and everywhere they travel including airports and airplanes. Even the healthiest can and does become ill when this happens. The world does watch out for it's own humanity, but we must do so responsibly too. This is why the institutes like the WHO and the CDC were started. Then the first place they release anything pertinent is to the media. This is the fastest way of communication today. swine flu is a mix of human, bird and avian flu and has the ability to change and swap genetic material making it more deadly because if it does this it will be impossible to make a vaccine in time. With winter fast approaching in the southern hemisphere it is VITAL that we watch what happens and if it becomes more severe this will activate governments around the world to put their absolute emergency pandemic plans into place and to brace themselves for excess deaths, for the 1st time in our history we might be seeing a pandemic influenza Evolve in front of our very eyes (quote from WHO director, margret chan). You need to make preparation in case this happens which is highly likely and get ready for things such as:

Public events being cancelled
Widespread school closures
Travel bans
Quarantines
