Does a drug conviction (misdemeanor) eliminate you from federal aid?

I have a misdemeanor charge for possession of pot (about the same amount as the amount of tobacco in a cigarette). I am wondering if I do get convicted, does that automatically disqualify you from federal aid or is it a case by case thing where it depends on substance, amount, etc. It is the first time I have been in trouble besides a parking ticket, too.

A drug conviction CAN disqualify you for Federal Student Aid eligibility but ONLY if the conviction is for an offense that occurred WHILE you were actually receiving aid. Any charge that you have for a pre-college offense will not impact your aid eligibility.

and i think you can only be disqualified if you got in trouble while you were recieving financial aid

I don't believe so. I had a friend who was convicted of drugs and he still has his financial aid.
