What is the reasoning for cruel, and unaiding commentary?

I nkow the question, "Why are people mean?" has been asked so many times here on Yahoo!ANSWERS, but what I'm looking for is a little more specific than just asking why people are mean. I almost hate asking a serious question to get real people's opinions and input, just because of the people who add cruel and sarcastic remarks like, "You're sick." or "You need medical attention."

Recently on Yahoo!ANSWERS I asked a question about cannibalism, and what today's society would make of that idea - but not once in my Question of my Additional Information state what my personal opinion on the matter was. When I started recieving ansqwers I got a lot of replys where people were callnig me "Sick" or "In need of medical attention". How can one assess that I might require psychological aid when I asked a question to the public for their answers, without revealing my own personal input?

Why do people feel the need to add cruel and unresourceful/unhelpful comments?

Another example: I was asking a serious question about what kind of earring is the safest, and was the best for peopel with gauged/stretched ears. I wasn't asking for people's personal opinion about gauging, or what happens when I'm older - I was asking what type of plugs worked best for people who stretch/have stretched their ears. I wasn't looking for people to criticize my personal interest in body modification, I was asking what worked best for other people who are also interested in this form of body modification.

Why do people, in this case, feel the need to add comments like, "You need plastic surgery and a therapist." or "Plastic surgery".

Neither of those comments answer my question, nor are they polite and respectful. Why are people cruel to others, just because they don't fit a certain social standard?

Unfortunately, my dear child, welcome to the human race. In the midst of the many enlightened people are the overwhelming amount of fools and idiots who make up the rest of the herd. I plan on going and reading your question about cannibalism...but back to your original question. Some people on YA are just after the points. They have to answer something so they are derogatory. It's easier to be flippant than to come up with a well thought out meaningful answer. Some don't read anymore of the question than just the tag line. Some are in serious need of medical help themselves, bless them. it gets worse over in the category of "Religion and Spirituality", trust me. Keep your chin up and realize many of these fools have nothing better to do. It's not you. It's them.
