I filled my FASFA out in Feb. and I just now checked the status of it and it says parent's signature missing

Although I filled out the FASFA in Februrary, I checked the status of it in April and it said "parent's signature missing," and so I tried to provide a signature with my mother's PIN since my mother is not here and I have no way to communicate with her. When I tried to use my mother's PIN I got a message that said her PIN had been deactivated and so I had to create a new one for her. So I created a new one for her and when I tried to enter the information to retrieve the new one I got a message that said the information I had entered did not match what they had on file for her. Afther May 25th I no longer had regular access to a computer since I had to leave college for the summer and stay with my grandma who has no computer. Yesterday was the first chance I got to come to the public library and look at my FASFA, and it still says "parent's signature missing," and my financial aid has not gone through, and so my college is saying I owe $7,000 even though my classes start August 27!!!

yesterday after I discovered that it still said "parent's signature missing," then I tried to call the FASFA hotline and ask them what the problem might be. They said it might be because I had put my mother's maiden last name on the FASFA, yet I had used her other last name (from my father) when I made her PIN, so they said I had to change my mother's maiden last name on the FASFA to the other last name (from my father), and then after I did that I should be able to sign the FASFA with my mother's PIN. I did change my mother's maiden last name on the FASFA to the other last name (from my father), and yet it still will not work when I try to sign the FASFA with my mother's PIN!!! I even made a PIN for my FATHER and not even THAT will work!!! WTF??? How can I get a "parent's signature" if none of the friggin PINs I use will work??? Also, if nothing else, I just have one question, please: since I did the FASFA early (in February) am I still considered for the maximum financial aid?

FAFSA people will not contact you with issues regarding your account. You have to be on top of that. I'm with JRM - your mother needs to speak with them and get it cleared up herself.
Don't be surprised it has taken this long. When I tried to go to college, it took FAFSA nine months to turn me down. I ended up owing the school over 2,000 dollars out of my pocket. It is really up to YOU and your mother to straighten this out. Do NOT depend on them to take action to fix it.
Even if you do get it straightened out and get an approval, it's very unlikely you'll get any money before school starts. The best you can do is fix the signature issue, press them for an acceptance, and then ask the school to accept a late payment. It will be up to your school's policy what they'll be willing to work with you around.
Yes, it also could affect the amount of money you recieve. Financial aid is not an endless stream of money. They have limits on what they grant, and when they come close to that number, they start cutting back on those who've lagged behind.
Best of luck.

you must of missed something because they would of notified you way before now either by email or snail mail that your fafsa was missing something, the only way for a parent to sign being it was done online and you have no pin that works, you have to go to their website and print out the page for the signature, have them sign and mail it in.......good luck

Your mother should be the one applying for the PIN or signing the signature page. Have her call the federal help line (800.4.FED.AID) so that she can resolve the problem or she can go online at http://www.pin.ed.gov and have it resent to her.

There are many types of aid that are available on a first-come first-serve basis. If all funds from those types of aid have all been awarded then its unlikely you will be considered for aid from those programs; however, this is a school decision and often times, if this is the case, you can appeal for additional funding. Check with a counselor in the aid office for your school's policies.

I filled out my fafsa last month and was still eligible for money from federal loans (since I wasn't able to get aid because of my parents amount made last year). Fafsa only takes a couple weeks to process so you still should be fine. I WOULD however call them again. They should be able to correct any problem that comes along. If you seriously can't get it to work then your only option would be to have the paperwork sent and then have them sign it (or sign yourself although illegal). Do whatever you can to not lose that month.

Next time when a problem like that arises correct it ASAP! Don't let it pan out until you can't get your aid. FAFSA is a tricky program because it takes a long time and they have this retarded pin system.
