What factors determine how much college federal pell grant money you should receive?

Here's the deal: My wife and I are both college students and file our taxes together on one return. We each filled out our fafsa using the exact information on the same tax return. The only difference is when asked your income and spouse's income she divided our total income equally between the two (eg. if we made $40,000 she put student's income: $20,000 and spouse's income: $20,000 whereas i put student's income: $40,000 and spouses income: $0). I don't think this would make a difference because 40k is 40k right? Yet she received more aid than me. Her efc was even lower than mine. Her's was 01854 and mine was 02558. I did file mine a couple of months later if that matters. Anyways, I'm not going to be able to go to the financial aid office at the college until Monday and was hoping I could get a little clarity or advice on this matter sooner.

BTW: We do attend the same school and our cost of attendance was also wrote up the exact same as well. Thanks in advance.

It should not be divided equally between you both. The amounts should be from your W2 forms:

Example (from your W2 form) you earned $37,698 and she (from her W2) earned $2,481 or
She earned 19,056 and you earned 18,879

Good luck, but it sounds like one of you got shorted on your fin aid package.
