Fish question?

Ive just posted a question on here about giving my goldfish first aid, someones mentioned salt in the water. Im just checking i have read this information right, would it be safe to put some sea salt in the tank for my poorly fish?

How much exactly? Its only a small tank for over night

Salt really isn't usefully for 1st aid. It's really only useful for the following:

0)Treating ich, or velvet, but it's best to use salt inaddition to a medication.
1)Reduces nitrite toxicity. Of course if your tank is properly cycled you won't have any nitrite.
2)Reduce the stress of live bearers like molly. In this case sea salt is good as it raised your pH. (Live bears like a high pH)

Normally I'd advise against sea salt as it raises your pH. Table salt is pure NaCl and is generally better than sea salt. Yes it's got iodine, but so does sea salt. Fish need iodine too.

Yes, sea salts are fine to add to a fish tank, but I wouldn't in your case. I read your other question, got stuck in a log right? If it's just for the night, I wouldn't add the salt. Salt is great for treating some diseases like ich or fungal infections, but your fish was just stressed, so just keep using the stuff you used, and that would be all. Good stuff to have on hand, is a product called MelaFix. An herbal remedy, great for treating minor injuries or for fish that get stressed like yours did. You said he was swimming around ok, so sounds like he'll probably be fine.

We have been raising gold fish in a tank for the past six months.

They are swimming in fresh water which we change very often.
When we purchased the gold fish, two were "expecting", and have since given birth.

The "babies " are all very small and are all doing well without adding sea salt.
