She escaped through the "underground railroad" which was a system of safe houses for escaped slaves prior to 1865. It was called the Underground railroad to mislead slave catchers into thinking the route was really underground. After she escaped she made 13 more trips rescuing about 70 slaves but she wasent done yet.


After leading many friends and slaves to freedom Harriet tubman. Harriet aided the north in wining the war. In the spring of 1863, Union officals had found a very important role for Tubman to play. The union army in South Carolina urgently needed valuble information about the confederate military opposing them. By the spring of 1863, Union officials had found a more dramatic and active role for Tubman to play. The Union forces in South Carolina badly needed information about Confederate forces opposing them. Tubman sacrificed herself for her people and went behind enemies lines as a spy in disguise to gather information. Harriet Tubman continued to fight for her people till she died of pneumonia on March 10th 1913.



Inconlusion Harriet Tubman was an escape slave, herself. She returned to the South many times and led over 300 slaves to freedom on the Underground Railroad. She never lost a passenger. If you set out for freedom with Harriet Tubman, freedom is what you received. She was an incredibly courageous women even after she was to old to help slaves escape she played her part in the civil war and was a very important person in African American history .
