Cal Grant and Pell Grant?

I was told from my financial aid office that I would receive both my pell and cal grants money. But when I read some of the information on the internet most people are claiming that the school does not issue your cal grant money it's for the school to pay off your tuition. I'm at a very confused state, do I receive my cal grant money or do I not? Someone in the financial aid office told me that my cal grant money will be sent with my pell grant money. Is this true?

Don't freak out. From what I can gather the Cal Grant is California's version of the federal Pell Grant. Your school will receive the funds first to pay off any tuition the Pell didn't take care of. You'll then get the excess. This is standard procedure for financial aid.

BTW...reading up on the cal grant, makes me want to move to Cali! Florida has no need based grant reward, just an inane scholarship fund that only about 1000 kids out of the entire state get each year.
