Part I: Prepare a Presentation on a Phylum or Class in the Animal Kindgom.

Ever wonder why Dolphins and Humans are placed in the same phylum, but flatworms

and roundworms are not? Well, the taxonomist in you is going to find the answer to this

question 鈥?and many more! In order to make this information a bit more interesting, besidereading the chapters, you will make a presentation on these Phyla and Class of Animals to your classmates. This presentation must address major characteristics of the Phylum and an explanation of each characteristic. These characteristics include:

路 Examples of animals in the phylum or class

路 Environment typically found in (land, in Freshwater, or Marine/ocean)

路 Food typically eaten (and whether it鈥檚 an Herbivore, Carnivore, or Ominvore)

路 Organization of tissues (Diploblastic = 2 layers, or Triploblastic = 3 layers)

路 Type of symmetry (bilateral or radial)

路 Type of cavity (coelom, acoelom (no cavity), or pseduocoelom)

路 Reproduction (internal or external fertilization) and care of young

路 Specialized adaptations these animals have

路 Classes found in the Phylum or Orders found in the Class and examples of species in each order (you need species names and pictures of each)



You will be graded on the accuracy and completeness of the information presented,

the quality of pictures (you should have at least two), spelling, grammar, and the

Visual Aid (it may be done on a Poster, Handout for each classmate, or PowerPoint.)

Everyone must be ready to do these the first day of school (NO EXCEPTIONS!)

Part II: Assemble an Animal Book



In order to help you organize your notes (and remember this information) you will make

your very own 鈥淏ook of Animals.鈥? The purpose of this book is to learn what all animals

have in common, and what makes them different. For now, the first page of your book

should simply discuss characteristics all animals have in common. The other pages of your

book will each be titled with the above headings (1-17) and should only have pictures

of the organisms that are found in the Phlya listed below on the top half. You will then

use information in class to fill in the rest of each page with details on those organism.

Your book should be able to fold in half (like a pamphlet) and can be made from simple

computer paper. You may make it using Word, Publisher, or good old -fashioned artistic ability!

Frankly, there's no quick-fix answer to this. This requires work, and you should start on it now. If there's a single aspect you don't understand, do ask, but really, it's mainly a matter of getting going.
