Low income person seeking divorce help?

I'm a person with low income living in the state of Illinois. I've been looking around for legal aid help and no one is willing to help. Does anyone have information/links where I can go and get help to get a divorce from my husband. Please someone help me

Here is a website for your state:
http://www.illinoislegalaid.org/

This is a site for "pro bono" cases, which means they help those will low incomes:
http://www.illinoisdivorce.com/legal_res...

If you can afford $250, I used http://www.completecase.com. This is only for an uncontested divorce. You will also pay additional court fees, which you pay directly to your county. My court fees were $214, but if you are low-income, the site also gives you a hardship form to complete to have your court fees waived. It guided me through the whole process. I am in Texas, but they have forms for every state, and you can fill out everything on-line.

If you have a credit card, most lawyers will accept a payment/retainer that way (you could also use a convenience check from the card). Hire the lawyer and have him/her stipulate that your husband is to pay for the lawyer fees because you have no support. This might work for you. Good Luck!!!

Our County Government (courthouse) here in California has a self help center. They give you the papers and when you fill them out they look over them for you. Google Pro Bono divorce attorneys in your area too.

You may think you are in a low income category, but they may not. Look in the blue pages, or the government section and look for legal aid. The parameters are pretty low to be able to qualify for low income. I think if you earn anything, in some cases, they don't consider you as low income. Good Luck. If you don't have any children or any property to split, the most it should cost is $500.00, but I know to some people that's like saying 500 thousand.

if you get any help from the government food stamps?..medicaid for you or your children..ask them at the dept of human services. i live in tennessee and thats where i went 1st for help. took me a long time filed in april '05 divorce will probably be final the end of this yr...good luck to you

Check with the courthouse. They should have some information for you.
In Wisconsin, low income families can get the fee waived. And Legal Aid for a lawyer. If your on any assistance (food stamps etc..) Your case worker might have some info for you. Your church, the salvation army may help. If they can't they may lead you to who can.
