Should I take a teaching job with long commute (40 miles) and less pay (-3,000), or stay in a bad situation?

I am currently a library media specialist for a district undergoing restructuring. We passed a bond issue to build more classrooms. In order to save money staff members like me will be split between 2 schools. I do not have an aid (400 students). I teach a full schedule of information/technology skills to grades K-5. I spend much time after school & on weekends completing tasks associated with running a media center. I'm often there until 6-8:00pm. All meetings are after school (integration, district media specialist, & technology). I am often in meetings T, W, & TH. My principal is extremely disorganized & unproductive. He has no idea about what is going on in the building because he is gone much of the time. We have several students with violent behaviors & no policies to help them. The new school has less students, an aid, time to run the library & few after school meetings. They don't have many behavior problems. The principal is involved. Should I stay or go?

I'm taking the new job. The morale of the staff is deterioating. They just can't cope with the pressure. There are 8 teachers leaving. The school social worker and instructional coaches have been taking over many of the principal's duties. This is not always best for the students or teachers. The social worker rarely deals with students anymore. She spends her time listening to staff or complains about the principal herself. She is not a positive force. The coaches are involving themselves, informally, with staff evaluations. I thought their purpose was for modeling and curriculum support. It is a sad situation. One of our teachers was falsely accussed of hitting a student. It was investigated, repported, and examined by the police and doctors before the principal talked with the teacher. Although the case was quickly disproved, the principal made the teacher apologize to the student. Only 2-3 teachers came to aid of this teacher. The teachers are divided.

I'd go...the conditions at your current school are not likely to improve anytime soon. This is what causes burnout in teachers: no support, policies, and inept administration. Really, what do you have to lose? Maybe you would then have the time to take a class to move up a lane and recoup your salary loss more quickly. You sure don't have the time to do that now.

first wow.....i feel bad for the student stuck in that situation, is there any possible to get the principal out, if not then i would definetly move on.

Look at it this way....in a couple of years you can recoup lost wages through the raises you will probably receive. Your time spent in meetings will probably equal your commute. I say, "go for it!". You're not loosing much and you have a lot to gain.
