Does anybody known of any scholarships available to Catholic men entering the seminary?

My plans are to enroll into St.Joseph College Seminary in the fall of 2007 and begin studying for the priesthood. I have done serious discerning for about a year and feel this is where God wants me to be. I have also felt compelled to explore the prospect of priesthood since at least 8th grade. I fully intend on completing all four years of education at St.Joseph's while I continue to discern the call to the priesthood. Although I am very excited about college, the cost for four years at St.Joseph scares me (it鈥檚 about $130,000!!!!!). This extraordinary high cost is due to the fact that I'd be required to double major, i.e. studying Theology/Philosophy and Social Science Education (specifically European/U.S. History, and Sociology). Since I'm not rich at all, I'm going to need a lot of financial aid and scholarship money. Please give me any information that could help me. Thank You and God Bless You.

+ Your Diocese: Students studying to be a priest in a diocese of are usually eligible to participate in a tuition assistance plan based on need. Contact your diocesan Office for Vocations for more information.

+ Federal Stafford Loan: A United States Citizen/National, permanent resident, or an eligible non-citizen may apply for a Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan. Loans are available for those students who demonstrate financial need. http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

+ Seminary Scholarships: Every seminary has scholarship funds that have been set up to provide assistance to qualified students. Contact the college's Financial Aid office.

+ Employment: Part-time employment on most campuses is available to students.

+ Other Scholarships: Research all Catholic organizations for available scholarships. Several small amount can add up.

With love in Christ.

I don't know of anything offhand, but see if you can get some sponsorship from your home parish. Talk with your priest. Since he's been to seminary himself and knows what it's like, he'll probably be sympathetic to your cause and might be able to help you find some sources for additional funding. Good luck to you.

shouldn't going to that seminary be FREE! why can't the Church in Rome finance such an education? what do they do with all that money i drop in the basket every sunday??? hehehe...

oh yeah, i pay for every candle i light too. do they just use the candle funds just to buy more candles?

Try a Stafford Loan for school. You have to pay it back but they don't really turn anyone down based on credit or employment.

The Knights of Columbus give out over a million dollars a year to students attending Catholic colleges and seminaries. You can see what they have to offer at:
