Who should have filled out the financial aid paperwork ? |
I received a letter saying i needed tax information from myself and my mother. I had the school send her a copy of the letter considering she lives far away. She was going to come down for a family get together and i asked her to fill out the forms. She said she wouldnt and that she would bring the forms down so i could fill them out, but i wasnt going to be at the party. The forms also required a photo copy of her tax returns. She did not want to fill it out, but said i could fill out the forms since she would bring her tax docs with her. I personally feel she could have done this for me. i would not have asked her to do this for me if i didnt need to. She said since the financial aid was for me that i was responsible for filling it out. So my question is, is should she just have filled it out, or was it my repsonsibility for filling out her part of the form My suggestion to U would be contact the financial aid dept. of the school U are planning to attend,or call 1-800-433-3243 which is the Fed. Ed Dept. directly. I know it's frustrating but don't get discouraged. I filled out my daughters FAFSA applications and my tax info was required because she is considered a dependent. But your case might be different, that is why U need to contact the financial aid dept. and ask how to go about it. If you still have trouble figuring it out go to the next option go see the schools counselor, also remember there are dead lines on when to get the apps in. (www.fasfa.ed.gov) is the web sight. There is no problem with you filling out the application for your mom. While I understand it would be nice for her to show an interest in your pursuit, it's probably not something worth getting all worked up over. At least she's willing to share the information with you so that you can complete the application which (unfortunately) is more than some other parents will do. However, your mom will be required to sign the application. So, somehow the two of you will need to get-together so that you can get her information and so she can sign the form. Or, if you do the application on line at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov, your mom can apply for her own PIN at http://www.pin.ed.gov and she can sign it electronically. |
