Lip piercing questions...?

I'm planning on getting my lip pierced soon, because I've been wanting it done for a couple of years now more than anything. I'm not concerned about the pain or anything. I mean, that's part of the experience. I do have some things I'm concerned about though.

My school requires piercings to be covered by band-aids. Will doing this every day be harmful to the piercing?

I'm only sixteen. My mother won't give me permission to get it done, but I reallyyy want to. Would I be allowed to get it done without her consent? If not, what are the risks of doing it at home with a sewing needle or something of the sort?

Any other information you have on getting my lip pierced would really be appreciated. Thanks.

By the way, I'd really rather not listen to you tell me that piercings are ugly, I'm too young, etc. So if that's what your planning on telling me, don't waste your time.

I'm not too worried about the food problem either. I don't eat much, and when I do it's just little stuff.

Okay so...
You can't cover your lip ring with a band aid, it needs to air out and heal.

Healing time can be anywhere between 4 weeks to 6 weeks plus. (I've had mine since October and it still gets infected sometimes)

PLEASE do not do it yourself. Especially with a sewing needle. The needles used at shops are made especially for the piercing so it doesn't swell too much or get infected.

I have 17 piercings and although the lip piercing was the least painful to get it took the longest to heal. And it hurt SO bad. I wouldn't get another one on my lip.

If you can't get your mom to sign a consent form or something I would just wait. Doing it yourself is a really bad idea.

don't pierce.

i seriously dont think you should percie your lip at all because when your eating it gets in the way and lt look totally weird and most the time it just gets infected and id get it done by a proffesional if i ever got sumthing that stupid done

Just wait till u move out . Lips heal fast , as soon as u take ring out it will start to close. It will be a waste of money if u do it now

Yes, if you get a lip piercing and cover it with a band-aid everyday will be harmful to it. The reason being the adhesive (sticky) part of the band-aid would irritate the skin around the fresh wound when you try to take it off and would most likely lead to infections.

Secondly, there are places where you can get your lip pierced without parental consent, but if I were you, I wouldn't trust those places, they're a bit flaky, to be honest. But you are sixteen, and you're old enough to get yourself pierced without a parent at a certified piercing shop, so you won't have to worry about self-piercing; I highly recommend you do NOT self-pierce because you can get an infection if your "tools" are not sterilized properly in an autoclave. Leave it to the pros.

Cheers and good luck.

shouldnt get it because covering with a band-aid everyday for 6 hours not a good thing.
it is harmful to the piercing.

Its entirely upto u

But dont cover it up because it needs open air to it for it to heal.

Plus if u end up having to take it out it will close right away and its going to be a waste of money.

But like i say its upto you if u want it done.

(:

I GOT ONE AGED 13 IN UK, I KEPT IT IN FOR A FEW YEARS AND HAD THE SMALLEST BAR AND BALL AVAILABLE THEN LOST THE BALL, RESULTING IN ME SWALLOWING IT! I WAS FINE, BUT THE HOLE SI STILL THERE, NOT OPEN, BUT THE OUTSIDE IS A HOLE AND ALWAYS WILL BE AND IM ONLY 17 NOW. DONT DO IT FROM SOMEONE WHO HAD IT

Covering a new piercing will irritate it. Not only will it keep your piercing from breathing, the band-aid itself will attract germs and dirt and hold them against your skin. The constant pressure on your piercing will irritate it as well. Band-aids and new piercings are just not good friends. Especially not every day.

If your mother won't consent to the piercing, getting it behind her back is NOT going to help your situation. Ruining your mom's trust in you over a lip piercing is absolutely not worth it. If you really, desperately must have this piercing then work with your mom about it. Explain to her what it means to you, why you want it, etc. Educate yourself on the piercing, its care and consequences. This way you can have a real conversation with your mom and let her know this is not just a trend you're following for no reason.

If you found a place that would pierce you without your mom's permission, you have to wonder: what other laws are they breaking?? Is there equipment sterile? Are they throwing out used needles or are they reusing them? Are these people even trained to pierce safely? Scary stuff. Avoid shady underage piercers.

Piercing yourself at home has the obvious risk of infection. If you manage to get away without an infection, you're even more at risk for just doing the piercing incorrectly. If you place your piercing wrong, it can chip your teeth, rub on your gums, or even knick a blood vessel or nerve. EVEN THEN your piercing is just not likely to be as straight or well placed as one that was performed by a professional.

In the absolute worst case scenario, you'll have to wait 2 more years to get pierced safely. 2 years isn't that big of a deal in order to get a piercing you can keep as long as you please. This also gives you plenty of time to work on educating and convincing your mom to let you get pierced safely.

And no, properly placed lip rings will not get in the way of eating after they've healed. The only thing that makes them awkward is the soreness for the first few days.
