Oweing taxes but getting financial aid?

I ended up accidently checking the exempt status on my tax information for work (I didn't know what it was, it was my first job), so they didn't take out any federal tax for the year. I owe $460, my question is, I know with applying for financial aid for college you need to file your taxes for the year first. Could I still be given financial aid even though I owe on my taxes?

Financial Aid isn't based on how much you owe/get in terms of a refund.

Taxes are taken from your income while you work. At the end of the year, you take out all your deductions and see what you owe. If you owed more than they took out, you pay. If you owed less than they took out, you get a refund.

In other words, if you made a million dollars last year and had 50% go toward taxes, you could still get a refund. If you made $5000 last year and had no taxes taken out, you could still owe.

Only your income/assets and your parents' (if you are classified as dependent) count toward receiving financial aid.
