i have borrowed 拢9000 to have windows and gutters done , when the surveyors report was done they said it was essential work, will legal aid want their money first, rather than put a charge on my property to receive at a later date, grateful for any information

They may extend the time you have to repay the monies - but you need to speak with them and explain your situation .....
You have to remember what legal aid is - it's a bank of fixed money put aside by the government to assist people in seeking legal recourse who would not be able to afford it otherwise .... therefore each time money is 'lent' via this scheme, it is being taken from this bank and leaves less available for others in similar need situations ....
therefore, out of conscious let alone law, you should be making repayment of the legal aid monies generously lent to you, a priority - to allow others to get the same kind of help you needed, when they need it .....
With that in mind it is also a debt - and debts can only be 'put on hold' by other borrowings used to pay that debt .... therefore you need to consider taking out a different loan that will allow you the time for repayment, to pay that debt .....
