Fafsa question on my EFC?

today, one of the people that work at the federal aid office in my campus changed my information so my EFC went up from 0 to 60. what is EFC and is this bad or what? Thanks.

What probably happened is that you were selected for Verification. When that occurs you have to submit information so a school can check the accuracy of your FAFSA answers.

When you complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) it generates an EFC (Expected Family Contribution) that schools use in conjunction with their COA (Cost of Attendance) to determine what type of aid to award you.

If your EFC has been changed from 0 to 60, you're still in good shape. You should be getting a corrected SAR (Student Aid Report) and that will tell you (if your school hasn't already) if you are eligible for the Pell grant. If you are eligible for Pell, then you may also be eligible for the ACG/SMART.

they expect you to contribute $60 to your education, if you have workstudy or grants it will probably cover that 60 dollars, don't fret.

EFC - Expected Financial Contribution

It is the portion of your tuition they expect you to pay.

This is not a huge change. It means that if all the information on your fafsa is correct and if you meet about a million other school requirements, no defaulted student loans, decent college gpa, no bachelors degree, degree seeking, then you will receive about 2130.00 in the fall and 2130.00 in the spring in federal Pell grants if you go full time. This is money you do not have to pay back.
Don't sweat the change, it happens all the time. Better the fin aid office correct it than the dept of ed catch the mistake later and make you pay something back because the info was incorrect.
