Any psychologists here? I have a few questions about mental health.?

So I have a friend who bottles up emotions, has sleeping problems, stays away from relationships because that person has a fear of losing them, this person is also someone who doesnt have a clear sense of self and i mean like his personality conforms to whoever and hes the type of person whos like "i cant think of one, or i can decide what i like" type of person, he stays home alot, he doesnt really trust anyone, hes on anti depressants and prescribed sleeping aids and said something about using pain pills.

with this information can any one tell me whats going on with him. i know hes depressed but he revealed hes on alot of meds.. how can i help him

Sounds like he may have social phobia/anxiety. What you can do is to tell him you are here for him and that you will not judge him and just want to be his friend. I want to warn you that being around him may be depressing you for awhile, and he may be afraid that he will lose your friendship because of his illness. That is probably worrying him a lot. What I would do is to talk to him when he is sad, let him tell you anything that's on his mind, dont pressure him to speak anything about the illness, just let him come to you. But be an outlet for fun (invite him to watch a movie or eat), reveal some sensitive issues to him so he knows he can trust you, and tell him you care. Just let him know that you will not run away. Please think about this first, because by doing so you may be openng yourself up to a lot of his negative feelings, and if your personality type isnt the type that can separate someone else's sadness from your own life, you may not want to be the refuge just yet, because you may feel you have placed a heavy burden on yourself..
