Financial aid for school? |
so im trying to fill out financial aid and it says you need your parents information.. but would i need that because im 18 i live out in idaho on my own and i have a baby due april 1st.. and my parents dont claim me on their taxes.. so im confused do i still need their information or no. oops i did not mean to post this in pregnancy section!!! you probably don't need your parents info on the application. just call the school and ask You need to fill in how much you're parents make and if they have dependants. You would ask them for their tax returns. lolx! You are fine. ah well, yeah you need your parents information when you are applying for Financial aid for school I would figure you wouldn't need their information if you're 18 and aren't claimed in their taxes. Your best bet though would be to contact your school and ask them how it should be filled out. I am not sure how old you have to be, but you can file paperwork that states that you are independent. Call your school's financial aid office and they should be able to tell you. If you are not in school yet, call FAFSA. You will need your parents info until you have your baby. have the baby, then fill out the FAFSA. They require your parents info until you are 25 I believe, unless you are married or a parent. well if youre parents dont claim you on your taxes and youre 18. I would say you could bypass that or put n/a in lieu of your circumstances, but to be on the safe side, I would consult with the financial counselor in the institution which you intend to attend. I think that you still do until your 24 yrs but ...better left for the financial aid experts..been out of school awhile. No you wouldn't since you are 18 you are a legal adult. You do not need your parents consent for anything anymore. You should probably put on the forms that you are 18 years or older and if that still doesn't work give the school a call. lol .. I've posted in the wrong sections too. No, If you are on your own and you parents do not claim you as a dependant, then you need to tell the financial aid department. They do not need yur parents info. They will help you out If you are planning to provide more than 50% of the support for your baby, you can answer "Yes" to question #51 on the FAFSA (see below), you will be considered an "independent student", and you won't have to include your parents' information. If you will not provide at least 50% of your baby's support, you must answer "No" to question #51, and (if you answer "No" to all of the other dependency questions) you will be considered a "dependent" student and will have to provide parental information. |
