Can I go to jail? |
okay this last semester in college was really bad for me and I stayed the whole semester and didnt pay anything cause of financial problems. So the school is withholding my grades and not allowing me to register for the spring semester. So I moved back in with my parents and signed up for community college but the thing is I told them I was a first time in college student because they would have asked for my grades from my previous college and I dont have those. Can I get in trouble for that? Also the reason I couldnt pay for the first semester is cause I applied for financial aid Using my fathers W2 information and my dad didnt file for his taxes cause him and my mother(They are divorced) argued over who was to claim me. It was a big mess that I had nothing to do with. The first college was a really big university. I owe them 5,000 Dollars. this CC I owe them 700. This whole thing is not my fault.I just have no money, I just wanna get an education i agree get a job, not all of us were as fortunate as you to even get one year in because we have to work right out of highschool. And by the way it is your fault. You control your life financially and otherwise. I disagree with Amanda when she says that it is absolutely your fault. It is NOT your fault that your dad didn't claim you on his taxes. And no you won't go to jail, but do make small payments to your college or you'll get bad credit. Report It One other thing..it's better to go to CC now and pay off the $5K debt over time, than to prolong college. College tuition goes up each year! Plus the sooner you graduate, the sooner you'll have more job opps! Report It Then you get a job and you pay for your education! Better start living honest. This is only going to get worse until you resolve it, and they can ruin your credit. I owe a college 2,000 that I droped it's been to years the only thing they can probably do is just garnish you wages if u ever start working well no da First - no you're not going to go to jail. The dollar amounts you owe are relatively small so I doubt you will go to jail. However, your credit rating is going to suck which means you won't be able to get a loan in the future to buy anything. I recommend buying lottery tickets. Take care of your debt. Why go to a different school if you can't pay for the one before that? Not a good way to start. Work off your debt then get your education. It can be done. My roommate worked 40+ hours on top of having a full time student schedule. Had to pay 100% of school. Rent. Bills (utility, credit...) Car insurance.... She was able to do that and not have to take out loans. YOu have to learn how to budget. You might not have a life for a while but it would be worth it once you have that debt off your back. AND life would be better not having to stress over problems. You're not going to jail...you're going into DEBT....so now you owe $5,700...it's going to effect you in the long run...when you want an apartment, car, credit card...take a break...you can always get your education just make it a goal and pay off that debt...save your money up... You can't go to jail for doing this, but the money you owe could possibly be reported to credit agencies or your wages garnished if you have a job. Also, in the fine print of your community college application it may have said that any misrepresentation on your part could result in expulsion from the school. In their eyes that does include not reporting any other credits earned and schools attended. I know what it's like to be in debt from college attendance. I hope the best for you, and if at all possible borrow the money from your parents or someone who you trust, so that this situation doesn't look like a bad mark against you. |
