How long do forensic results take for a crime investigation?

As I stated earlier in my previous questions, my cousin has been charged with assault with a weapon and is currently on bail. Supposedly the investigators are going to do a forensic analysis on the knife that he had and it will than be determined if he had used the weapon in the altercation. He has court on the 31st, where he will find out if he is eligible for legal aid that day and recieve information on "crown particulars". I'm just curious if by than they will have the results for the forensics that day. Or perhaps they might already have it? Any information is greatly appreciated.

P.s. My cousin is a good person and this is his first offence, don't judge someone by there actions because of 5 minutes of their life. (alcohol did play a large role aswell)
Oh and we live in Vancouver b.c. Canada

If they're doing DNA testing, it's highly unlikely that the results will be in by then. Most Canadian labs have huge DNA backlogs so it can take 6-8 weeks to get the results (it's only really rushed on big offences, like murder).

EDIT:
If it's fingerprints, that'll be dependant on how tied up the fingerprint examiner(s) are (varies from place to place).
