For the past 20 years, Northern Uganda has been torn apart by war. Recently, N. Ugandan civilians have been displaced - forced into cramped, dirty, and dangerous camps. This has been particularly difficult for the children. Many are orphaned, uneducated, and in constant danger. Since the start of the war, over 30,000 kids have been abducted by rebel forces and forced to become child soldiers or sex slaves. Many of these kids were made to kill there own friends and family in order to make them more compliant.

The Invisible Children Fund is dedicated to raising awareness and money for the displaced or abducted children of N. Uganda. So far, they have built numerous schools, sent supplies to the oppressive displacement camps, and even gotten the U.S. government to pass a bill vowing to aid N. Uganda. However, the job is not nearly complete. For every child that ICF helps, there are a thousand more in dire need. I would strongly recommend giving to this under-appreciated cause.



Name - Schools for Schools or The Invisible Children Fund

Purpose - Schools for Schools: to raise money to build/improve schools in Northern Uganda. Invisible Children: to raise money for the displaced children of Northern Uganda in general. Schools for Schools is an offshoot of the Invisible Children Fund.

Activities - Displace Me (a nation-wide event during which people donate money and then sleep outside for the night in a public place)

Benefits - you're helping defenseless, victimized children.

How Giving Helps - 90% of the money goes straight to Uganda and the other 10% goes to spreading awareness and keeping the charity running.

Promotes awareness - the Displace Me event, lecturing at schools (showing videos, etc...). The videos both educate people on the war in N. Uganda, but also promote them to join in the effort to help.
